newer, better made mod: arthmoor:  open cities apparently has an ingame menu via mcm, but then arthmoor's got the oblivion gates toggle scripted through some ingame book that can be lost/destroyed and using another patch to remove the gates will crash the game lol why was open cities taken down to begin with? e: oh wait this is on his profile: "Due to the recent policy changes Nexus has instituted, I have put in the request for deletion of most of my files here. Not to worry, everything I have done over the last 15 years has been on AFK Mods for several years now for all of the BGS games I've modded. The files for Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 are also available through the bethesda.net website. He had it on his own site. He pulled down most of his mods and kept them there... except several ones that got particularly high downloads because $$$. He absolutely knows that his site cannot compete and that any similar mod on the Nexus will automatically get more downloads because it's centralized. The newer mod isn't complete at all, but the modder seems to be a pleasant person to deal with.

Is he really gonna pull the "I need to have absolute control over mods (including going after anyone who makes anything somewhat similar) to feed myself" card? I feel like if you're really that hard up, trying to monopolize mods for a game that is over a decade old isn't the way to secure funding.

Something to remember about old Arthmoor: He complained about Paid Mods being axed back when they were originally attempted on the steam workshop - he talked about how it was taking away money he was counting on, and that he was unemployed. Arthmoor's furry game actually had a playable demo, and if it could've had the resources for some polish, it would've fit right in as an N64-style retro adventure game. The problem, it seems, is Arthmoors repugnant personality. Somebody with his technical skill should be able to get a computer-toucher job somewhere and not be living hand to mouth, but he can't because he utterly lacks any soft skills. He couldn't get his game off the ground because he couldn't get anyone to invest in it (and there were like a dozen idea guys on the team and no programmers lol.) Arthmoor is also the only prominent Bethesda modder who didn't get to do a Creation Vlub mod and get paid that way, but he's burned any bridges he has at Bethesda. He us living purely in a Hell of his own making and it is delicious to witness.

I had to drop out of a discord I only joined for some technical help with a mod because I was getting updates the day nexus deleted a mod that removed all the pride flags in the Spider-Man game.

Just a few days ago, I was trying to figure out why a mesh I had edited kept breaking. Basically everything I read said that the "Auto sanitize before save" feature was harmless on NifSkope. I found only two things that indicated that it was causing my problem (which it was). One of them was on Loverslab. Everyone there was extremely nice and friendly and helpful to the newbie who was having a similar problem. The solution was to turn off that feature if it goes off and the resulting mesh breaks, because it can apparently cause a problem a small portion of the time. The other was on Arthmoor's forum where some other modder was tersely helpful, but the SECOND the newbie thanked them and left the topic, the other modder pitched a fit about how they'd never help people again because they're just so selfish and he asked for ONE THING. (He wanted a copy of a broken file or something? It seemed to me that the newbie had posted their reply and it'd gotten crossed with the modder's request so it probably wasn't noticed.) He was mad that a newbie mesh editor would just ask for help, receive it gratefully, and leave. The guy even later saw the reply and came back and gave the requested file and everything. Arthmoor popped in with some superior poo poo about "entitled users." I cannot express how much I prefer getting help from the people making potentially depraved 3d modeling porn that might get you on a watchlist vs. anyone at Arthmoor's forum. The difference is night and day. It was just so unpleasant seeing someone else get that "help."

There's a poo poo ton of new animation mods for Skyrim that just improve third person when you're running or swinging a sword and I know the basic framework for that was developed by people trying to animate some truly disgusting poo poo.

Pretty sure that's sensationalized. It definitely had an impact in amateur animation (with SFM, I believe?), but professionals use different tools with different workflows. Nevertheless, adult content communities are often remarkably friendly.
