Taking cover from artillery in that basin is worse than standing in an open field. Would you like an explanation as to why?

Okay, so back when I said that basin was sighted in, and the brilliant rejoinder of "that whole treeline is sighted in!" was made, well that treeline stretches for quite a distance and if you want to call in artillery on it, you'll need to provide specifics which depend on your ability to estimate range to the target. That basin is specific enough and small enough that the simple sentence "Hit the basin!" or whatever codeword you have for it is enough to call in a fire mission. Obviously closer is better, but an explosion anywhere within the confines of that basin is very likely to produce useful results for the defenders. Additionally, the levee that creates that basin will focus the concussive effects of artillery on anything squishy caught inside of it. Unlike a foxhole or a trenchline, which requires that artillery hit nearly perfectly to be effective, nearly anywhere inside of that basin will be effective. Furthermore, if you're propped up on the edge of the levee surrounding that basin you are not lying flat, and while you're not quite as nice of a target as someone standing still in the open, you still present a much larger cross section for either air or ground burst fragmentation than you would in a better position. If you were only worried about machinegun fire or tanks, that basin isn't a terrible place to be, but artillery is the king of battle, and that Ukrainian fighting position obviously had artillery assets assigned in support, making that whole basin a death trap.

Artillery shrapnel moves quickly and with enough momentum that every piece that doesn't embed itself in the middle of a tree trunk and stop moving has a big chance of hitting tree branches and other things that will then also move quickly. So not only are the soldiers dodging pieces of red hot flying metal, they are also dodging countless splinters and other debris kicked up by the explosion. Is that worth risking an approach in a wide open field and hoping your number doesn't come up? Well, that approach clearly didn't work either so probably not.

I've made a huge mistake.
If NK really do send a bunch of troops, when they inevitably get squished, will the dear leader be (a) indifferent; what's a few more dead North Koreans at the hand of a North Korean policy decision if it demonstrates North Koreas value to their Russian ally, or (b) annoyed at being mislead by Putin over Russia's war being anything but a complete dumpster fire?

What are you basing this statement on? North Korea appears to care quite a bit more about their troops as they understand that their military is one of the major things that they have going for them. NK's military has always been heavily privileged wrt state resource distribution and, aside from losing the deterrent effect of their genuinely large military (fun fact that the huge number of NK SF thrown around is not hyperbole, albeit who knows exactly what that looks like in practice) the NK military turning against them is likely the single biggest thing that has any realistic chance of ending the Kim regime.

In previous interview, that guy claimed he learned situational awareness from PUBG. He also mentioned he's saving for a M4A1 because it was his favorite weapon in PUBG, but he's too young to own one. He's only 21, and Ukraine requires civilians be at least 25 to own a rifle. I guess they read it and got him his favorite gamer gun.
