They put a massive loving TV billboard over the big junction at south bank and it's a loving menace, just what you need when driving is a giant glowing thing rapidly changing images in your peripheral vision.

Trees would be put in these places if they were up to the task, urban planners are aware that there are some trees hardier than others, but that doesn't mean any are as hardy or efficient as a tank of algae. have they considered the long term atmospheric co2 reduction benefits of planting property developers? would love to run the numbers on efficiency but things seem pretty quiet on how much it would cost to build, install, run and maintain the tanks then replace them when the local youth engage themselves by running a trolley/wheelie bin/nissan micra into it

DesperateDan posted:have they considered the long term atmospheric co2 reduction benefits of planting property developers? Yeah, but stuff like this isn't going to be zero input because that's not its purpose. It's definitely going to use electricity and if you don't put bollards around it (because they're needed because cities are built for cars and developers) it's going to get destroyed. Its job is to remove co2 and pollutants from the air, the green argument is in how you power it to do so. Plastering it with ads for gambling apps is going to happen for the same reason cave walls had pictures of megafauna and hunts. I'm no tech utopianist but the idea itself is sound. The big question is how these things are made really unpleasant on purpose because the thing about a big block of temperature controlled water is that it's very pleasant to be around in extreme temperatures, so the priority will be finding ways to keep the homeless and poor away from them. Stateside I think we'd go with strategic deployments in only wealthy areas and rainbow painted spike strips, but they'd absolutely 100% be destroyed by an F450 King Ranch Extended Cab lifted truck within 2 days.

How about just ripping up some of the concrete and planting more trees so that some can grow while they continue to cut them down because lol as if these things will last 25 years. It's a gimmick because these will be in gently caress all volume.

Currently on a pleasantly busy train in my state of Australia where as of today train travel anywhere in the state will cost you a maximum of 5 quid. Having just got back from 6 months in the UK the contrast is just astonishing.

It didn’t get discussed much and I was on the move when I saw it but that thing about giving migrants the ‘most basic accomodation possible’… that’s like, extremely horrifying. It’s like the most bureaucratic way of saying concentration camp I can think of. To be honest, and I loving despise the cunts don’t get me wrong, I was never sure if concentration camp was quite the right word for what the bastards were doing with Marsden etc. Obviously it was absolutely evil heinous poo poo but I guess my mental association with the word concentration camps conjured something way worse than even that. Turns out it was this I was thinking of.

I mean what else do you call it when you put people in remote camps under armed guard because you can't have them living in "our hotels" Like it is very clearly concentrating undesirable people out of accepted society. So that the nation can "defend itself" from refugees.

Yeah, should have said "you can find the money to pay for your dodgy PPE contracts" to drive the point home that they've been embezzling money from the country at the expense of local services. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't some embezzlement with HS2 as well.

Median income (it talks about 'net disposable' so I guess that is after tax? But it is before housing costs) not gone back to the original DWP paper to see) still under £30k. (year 2022) Median income £565pw (approx £29.5k) Mean ('average') £688pw (approx £35.8k) - shows how the higher paid skew the average up above the median by £123pwk. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-11894303/Where-does-income-Britains-earners.html Sorry for Heil link (thisismoney is a Heil production) but the article is interesting (if a bit unclear as to exactly what it is graphing I'll find the proper report).
