I don't even have a reference frame for how long that would run for. 2 miles? 20? 200? 200, but the last 190 are making increasingly distressing screeching noises? The mind boggles.

ONe thing this thread has taught me is that if you see someone pushing a wheelbarrow up a ramp, you're in for a good time.

That was 2019. It took ~2 years to rebuild the bridge-keepers cabin. It happened again January '23 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFqBEs7UQAg This one was able to steer away from the bridge when computer controls locked the engine speed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAmZ_HbVvzM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYuSC-IpeS8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyEvHOBHnHI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnd7RpMmF0s

I’d never heard of a Manchineel before, manzanilla de la muerte is great.wikipedia posted:The name "manchineel" (sometimes spelled "manchioneel" or "manchineal"), as well as the specific epithet mancinella, are from Spanish manzanilla ("little apple"), from the superficial resemblance of its fruit and leaves to those of an apple tree. It is also called beach apple.

Machineel are bad, but I’ll take them over the gympie gympie any day. I have to give dishonorable mention to the tangena of Madagascar, which has surely killed more humans than any other tree species.

mobby_6kl posted:Remake of Birds looking pretty dangerous Oh what the gently caress. About 20 years ago, I had killed two squirrels and had them attached to my belt. I was wearing shorts and as I was exiting the forest one of the squirrels came undone from my belt and fell. As he was falling, a claw caught my bear leg and ripped all the way down my lower thigh and calf to the ankle. I still have a small scar from it. No way I'd let that many squirrels move like that on me. Hope she got paid well!

This poisonous tree talk has me all nostalgic about being stung by nettles regularly as a child growing up rurally. Hell even occasionally as an adult it will still happen and I just get itchy stingy memories.

I grabbed a fistful of stinging nettles once as a kid because I thought it sounded fake as hell that a plant could sting you I sure did learn

I grasped a nettle because I read a kid's book that had a guy explaining the phrase to his grandkid. He didn't explain "don't touch the leaves", so I just grabbed it. That book was not well written.

I had paintball match where the fort we were supposed to attack was surrounded by nettles. Crawling through the underbrush on the approach was spicy.

My family has made nettle soup for as long as I can remember. When I was a little kid I knew for a fact that once the the nettles had been in a bowl of water, they no longer stung you. When I tried to demonstrate this to a bunch of understandably skeptical kids, I learned that there was a few more steps involved in the process.

Yeah, there's a food youtuber I watch sometimes who does occasional foraging videos, and he'll use boiled nettles pretty frequently. I always think, nope, not touching that unless I'm literally foraging for survival.
