I have the Balrog on the way (there are 2 designs, I guess) as a birthday present to myself and to set across from Treebeard. Will let you know how it goes. E: for what it’s worth, Google translate has a camera function which will translate live on screen in case the instructions are ever difficult to decipher. Just received a bunch of stuff. Mostly not worth talking about but a few things that could be useful. A small keyboard for an HTPC or some other use like that. Plastic feels veeeery cheap and the keys are a firm membrane type, but actually works well. There's a 2.4Ghz dongle, backlight, and the trackpad is small works fine including the scrolling gesture. Has a micro-sub connector for maybe an optional lipo but this one uses two AAAs. Edit: Ehh I'll do another once since I could test it out I wanted to shoehorn a fan into a passively cooled laptop, it has a 4-pin fan header but outputs no PWM no matter what I set in BIOS. So I found this pre-made fan controller to not DIY (which is obviously an option but  ) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001709663472.html The fan itself hasn't arrived yet but I realized I can test it with a oscilloscope that I also previously got on AE. You can set the temperature X when it starts ramping up speed and temp Y where at X+Y it will reach 100%. Seems like 10% duty cycle is the minimum. Used an electronic load as a heat source to test, and the controller reacts very quickly. It could be more tricky to calibrate it reasonably with the actual laptop and fan but we'll see once it arrives. https://i.imgur.com/PiSQtIQ.mp4 I can't imagine many people wanting to do this but these controllers could be useful for any sorts of projects, and they have different versions including 12v or voltage regulation instead of PWM. The touchpad is weird and responds properly to horizontal or vertical movements, but can't do diagonal movement smoothly. It's all in steps, unless you move it quickly, then it kind of smoothess out (line on the right). In practice it still gets the job done, but not great.

My spare nvme stick didn't work even though it has the right connector type  It has a mounting location for a plain 2.5" sata drive though, so I stuck an old ssd in it and it's an excellent little computer for running octoprint and some containers on ubuntu 22.10   Power draw appears to be around 9w idle. The BIOS has an option for auto power on after power loss so it should make a pretty good little server.

Bummer about the SATA but looking at the page again, it's clear they had to cheap out on a lot of things like USB3 and wifi, but overall it sounds pretty good for a budget server or htpc or something like that. I might get one the next time there's a sale or a coupon for it.

I bought https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004776496515.html locally from a computer store that OEMed them, I am pretty happy with it. It puts out a lot of air with enough force to get dust out of computers just fine, but it takes 5-10 seconds to ramp up the fan to full speed so you can't do short controlled bursts like an air spray can (not that you really need to when you have an infinite air supply)  It's weird feeling the gyro effect in your hand when it's going at full speed, it feels like it could do some real damage if you ever drop it and fan blade shards grenade everywhere
