In case you are wondering how it is going here, we are currently in the "actually it's Melenchon who is the facist" twitter campaign phase of operation "capitalism must be saved", obviously with an alliance with the far right. Also Macron hopes that opening a debate about end of life (finally allowing euthanasia in France as the population get super-old) is going to allow him to bounce back outside the retirement age pit of despair and that this debate isn't going to go loving insane and ends up with a referendum going in a really weird way just because people on the right wants him to gently caress off, hate the idea of people not suffering until they die and may be able convince people on the left that it would accelerate him going away (it won't). Also there was a referendum in Paris about allowing or forbidding free access electric scooters in the streets and Paris ended up the first major city forbidding free access scooters in its street. With a 92% of the votes against and under 10% participation. You can imagine what the people already blaming the female mayor over things she has little power over (like the waste collector trash strike which is 2000% macron fault) are now saying over that vote.

this saturday in Lisbon there was a protest for housing which ended in the cops charging on the protestors after the protestors didn't let them up until they released two girls held for graffiting a wall, the scale of the violence is way smaller than what's happening in france but still the last time there was a similar event was in the 2010s, things aren't going well and ofc the parliamentary left, even my commie party, is trying to downplay the issue

This person's arguing France is entering a revolutionary situation: https://newleftreview.org/sidecar/posts/the-french-uprising Idk but I liked this bit: "In the space of a few decades, and especially since 2017, an entire social model has been brought to its knees. They have brought the country to its knees. Not the CGT, not the Intersyndicale (if only) – they and they alone have done this. The country has been ruined by the competent. It is in a state of total disorganization. As we know, to oust the aristocracy, the bourgeoisie promoted university degrees and meritocratic symbols as replacements for blood and lineage. Hence a paradox (of which there are many) within late capitalism: the incompetence of the bourgeoise has itself become a historical force, one which a minimal amendment to Schumpeter allows us to identify: destructive destruction. Or, to give it its proper name: McKinsey."

that was on the BBC news page. I love reading British takes on the French. It’s filled with such smoldering resentment and disdain. The countries are technically allies in the way Japan and Korea are and it’s very amusing.
