lol my first introduction to forums as a kid was the yoshi art forums, which was also a very boring feature on weekend web. djynn flyssa was a member, as was shmorky for a hot second until the mods got pissy at the art of yoshi drinking cartoon bottles of moonshine.

after shmorky got banned/left willingly with a mod warning they made this comic for their yoshi side series that is maybe lesser known? weird history.

will say that it was both surprising and not surprising when I saw the djynn flyssa helldump on SA later on. was very weird to be a kid on a forum dedicated to T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas. lmfao

weird. there are a lot of mythoi around smelling like total poo poo when you walk into your match but it's basically impossible to smell anything except the cleaning fluid they use between fights and the smell of the mats/crowd.

e2: if you're entering the ring/cage smelling bad enough that it might debilitate your opponent, your training partners probably want to kill you

also how were you choking people unconscious in a position where their face is near your armpit?? the only way I can think of some kind of darce or modified guillotine but i also can't imagine some random guy at a bar doing those well enough to cut off blood to a person's brain over a long enough period that they pass out

edit: whoops missed the probe

weaponizing gross body parts can also be seen in the world of wrestling, with the Stinkface move popularised by Rikishi in which the victim is subjected to a facial assault using the attackers buttocks.

Most recently this move has been employed in the IZWF by fan favourite Dongicus of the Obese Brotherhood. Be sure to tune in!!!

There are some cool experimental attempts at a Diablo style game but one that I found on a demo disc as a teen and thought was really striking was Throne of Darkness, which was apparently made by ex-Diablo 1 devs for Vivendi

It gave you a small party to micromanage that each had their own inventory and skill trees and there were four factions for them

Most video games let you adjust difficulty on the fly, which rules because that means I get to try the hard difficulty and let the game challenge me, and just go "nah I don't feel like it" at any time. Lock me out of trophies or whatever, I don't care, just give me buttons to play the game on my terms and we're cool.

The best is when games have modular difficulty options. Hell yeah let me keep the challenging combat but also give me extra loot so I can skip fights I don't feel like doing, and if there's even a "gently caress this particular boss encounter" that doesn't change the rest of the game, I will absolutely recommend this to anyone.

I hate when games have modular difficulty but also add an arbitrary "if you change from the hardest one you're not allowed to change it back" restriction. Even some very good games do this.

I'm consistently a "too good for Hard, too poo poo for Hellfuck Mode" player so this always gets me

I just pick normal difficulty no matter what because

a.) I'm aggressively mediocre at everything.
b.) Like 90% of games nowadays don't really change anything from skill setting to skill setting except health and damage values. It's not like Goldeneye where different skill settings have extra objectives or whatever anymore.

Modular difficulty’s the best setup, reduce enemy hp values but up their damage intensely so I’m not dealing with damage sponges but they’re still dangerous

Arbitrarily high enemy hp is one of the greatest difficulty sins

sometimes there'll be some mechanic that's fine in theory or concept but just ends up being really insufferable in implementation (like many survival mechanics, for instance) that they remove completely on easy
