Of course now being stuck in a perpetual transporter buffer is actually the worst form of torture imaginable since everyone needs to be heavily traumatized for the parts of the show where people discuss their trauma (all of it)

Whoever Face Hand Guy is, I hope the choice is so goddamn dumb it makes me audible say "Oh gently caress OFF!" louder than I did during the final episode of Game of Thrones when Jaime said he never really cared much for the common people of King's Landing.

What?

Is that really the reason? Please no, dear God no

He doesn't say that last part. I double checked the episode because I can barely remember what was said after seeing the episode like a week ago. Alton Soong has a video log that says he made a golem like picard's so he could keep living since he's dying. He had a change of heart and decides that "wasn't just poor humanity, it was poor science. Because evolution is not an act of preservation. It's addition." After that line, it cuts to picard and geordi with geordi talking about how he's had a difficult time with his daughter on the Titan with him saying "You always want to impart the best aspects of yourself to them." Picard responds "I was recently reminded that we are not in control of what we pass on. Strengths, wisdom talent, and also flaws... weaknesses... sins of our past."

Cut back to the recording and Soong continues, "Into this new golem a bit of Lal, B4, of Lore. And of course a great deal of Data. This time with the wisdom and true human aesthetic of age. With the hope that in totality, that something - someone - will rise to be the best of us." Then, they say that Soong died before he could finish the project and that the integration effort failed with the different personalities still at odds inside the body.

So it looks like the writers are making a metaphor about the androids being soong's children and how lore is in there because just like with your own kids, you have to pass on the good and the bad.

You know, it occurred to me (maybe not an original thought) that a way more interesting Picard show would have been a younger more swashbuckling Picard as a captain of the Stargazer. Stewart could be an executive producer to satisfy his desire to make Picard be an action hero. Maybe even figure out some way to frame it so it's mostly happening in the "past" but occasionally we see Stewart in the "present" somehow relaying the story so he gets to also act in it.

And instead we got this.

Some of the guesses in the threads are close but I don't recall seeing anything that's 100 percent bang-on.
