I'm so loving glad I don't have to deal with localization and internationalization any more.

programmers should be kept away from localization and translation.

they will ALWAYS tend toward separating text into the smallest possible units, and something like this always happens.

also, obviously, words that get reused somewhere else with a different translation, like the word 'close' being used for 'dismiss', and for 'near'.
this leads to dialog boxes being labelled with a 'near' option

i think in this case its because the shell can handle ZIP and CAB?

thats not to excuse it of course, theres multiple ways around it. and since nobody really uses CABs they could probably just say "compress file" with a toggle buried away somewhere since that's basically the way it is now

even if they'd want to use 'zip' as shorthand for 'compressed folder', there's absolutely no reason not to have separate labels for 'zip (address form field)' and 'zip (compressed folder)'

already got a laugh out of me at the most ignorant basic cow tools level but id love to know if theres broader context to if you do not enter the tigers cave you will not catch its cub as the punchline

is it just the spider entering the humans cave to catch the child

probably funnier just as cow tools

i think so but this one has an extra layer for me. my buddy, who is terrified of spiders, was singing songs with his, at the time, four year old son as he put him to bed and this huge spider crawled out of the vent. he went to kill it and his kid started screaming not to and had a name like "webby" for it which implied he'd seen it before

yeah. it's first a cow tools, second a swerve into an itinerant ninja spider about to risk it all that is slightly funnier if you look up the translation

having not been to australia i feel like the "unqiue" dangers of spiders there is pretty overblown. either way, i love spiders and they have never hurt me despite my insistence on picking them up

it's absolutely overblown. if a small kid is bitten by a funnel web or a redback they'll be monitored closely for a bit, but bees and probably ants kill more people from allergies, not to mention all the other poo poo that people die from.
