i did not see the invitations stuff bc it's been a very busy couple weeks but hello I am Chic Trombone, my pronouns these days are he/him (but honestly I'm good with whatever) and I first played when I was a very dumb sixteen year old over..... god. that was thirteen years ago. I feel my bones disintegrate. I don't actually remember how I came to play a mafia game on the Something Awful Forums, but some of my favorite mafia memories include the time a player, Eddie Valiant, (who wasn't even scum!!) called me out as lurking in a game that I was the mod. Another fond memory is TWEWY mafia - a game I originally created with fronz, and have run twice (5 years apart each time..... It might be 5 years since it's last run again soon, too...... .hmmmmmm) that had eerie coincidences between both runnings including order of deaths, the fact that the same person ended up rng'ing into the same role with no memory on either of our parts, same vig used on the same role, etc. It was honestly kinda wild! Also there was an Eccogame with IRC that some of us absolutely smoked town in, in a hilariously forced way that could have gone absolutely belly up if we hadn't pulled it off the day we fullclaimed in IRC. That's a very fond memory I still have the scumdoc from  I like playing mafia because it's fun, sometimes, though I am often busy and forgetful when it comes to posting (as perhaps some folks I've played with recently can attest)

My first Mafia game was I've got you now, Snatcher scum! and it was ran by Namacuix. It involved a cult and as a first game, that was pretty rough. https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3362715 I think it was 2010, I had been looking for something to play by post and somehow Mafia caught my attention because of its fast-moving nature. I was 25 and had a lot of free time. I think my favorite mafia moment was getting Lumpen to post his role PM in a game I was in. I used to be a pretty aggressive player, because riled up people make mistakes. I don't play much anymore, maybe once every year or two.

Hell of a lot of mafia happening right now, eh? Not complaining, just striking. What are people's opinions about "plurality at deadline, majority hammer before deadline immediately ends the day" setup? I have a game in my back pocket for when it's quieter and I have a fondness for plurality but I know opinions differ

I feel like, in a plurality game, without the urge of getting everyone to agree on a target for deadline, there's going to be a bit more apathy -- plurality is great for town when there are town lurkers, but it also lets scum sit on nonviable votes / doesn't force everyone to commit or not to pulling the trigger on a contentious candidate. So I feel like voting records would be harder to track in a plurality game? I've played both plurality and majority games but I don't have any hard data to back any of this up -- I just think it would help scum as much as if not more than town.

All of my plurality games still had a hammer if a majority was reached at any time. They each have their pros and cons. One thing I like about plurality is I felt it was more fair sometimes for people who aren’t around at a deadline. Overall I don’t think plurality discourages posting but early game (like day 1) can definitely fee quieter in plurality because people just don’t have enough to go on. The majority threshold day 1 is an artificial mechanic in many ways that helps generate content. So if I was going to run a game tomorrow with plurality I’d probably consider something minor to help generate content day 1 and maybe day 2. Audience boons. A reward for the hammer or first vote on the execution. Maybe allowing players to vote on someone getting a random item or benefit. Forcing people to always have a vote down day 1. Or something better than any of that. It doesn’t have to be much, but anything that helps people accuse other people to get the game rolling should more than make up for any lack of posting under plurality early in the day. Later in the game I’ve never seen plurality as causing a problem.

Sane Cop is basically neutral, they check someone and get their alignment (except for godfather and Miller), but there also: Insane cops which get opposite alignments Paranoid cops whl always get scum results And Naive cops who always get town results. I feel like I've only seen sane cops for years
