I get the idea he didn't actually watch the movie as a Jordan Peele one. You know, where you watch it a second time to see all the loving foreshadowing. Or maybe he didn't even watch it at all.

Ah well. I knew his taste was poo poo when he said one of his favorite movies was Lucky Number Slevin but he thought Cabin in the Woods was dumb.

I named a dog ‘Manky’ after The Ramones’ drummer for one 90’s album. Yeah, no such thing, it was still Marky and I guess there was a misprint on a record club cd.

The inclusion of the chimp story in Nope is pretty confusing until the connection is made abundantly clear, because it's all flashbacks and not immediately obvious. And then it's super obvious.

Ironically the chimp is included to demonstrate why including a chimp is often a very bad idea.

One smaller detail I love is that after the tarp is pulled off of the horse cage, a shot or two later the theme park crew is in the corner of the frame dragging it out of sight

Not comparing the movies directly because they're two totally different genres and one of them is a classic although I hope nope becomes one eventually, but compare the dialogue from nope to silence of the lambs. So much happens in every single line of dialogue in silence of the lambs that you often miss things and you need a second or even third viewing to catch all the little details.

For example in nope, it wasn't until the 3rd viewing that I realized one reason the chimp went off besides the balloons, but check out the TV Mom's necklace.

The Flash tv show has a weird problem they've run into in the last couple of seasons. So early in the show Barry was the only main character with powers but then his various teammates ended up with them too for whatever reason. They would help out in fights with their own costumes and hero names: Vibe, Elongated Man, Kid Flash, you know superheroes. After so many years on TV side characters start leaving as their actors move on to other things and the show adds new side characters. This is all pretty normal stuff but what's weird is how these new characters also have powers and help out but they aren't wearing costumes and don't use hero names. So you have The Flash and his team of Allegra, Cecille and Chester.

I stopped watching the Flash shorttly after Flashpoint and everything I hear confirms that I was probably right, even though I adore Tom Cavanagh and will watch him in anything. LIke, I've watched season 1 of that show through about three times and I think I might watch it again. Glad all those actors are getting work though

I finally got around to watching Avatar: Way of Water, and while there's a whole list of rationally irritating parts about it, one kind of weird things is that there are a fair few of shots that just look... kinda bad and fake? Usually just fairly short sequences, in any other movie you'd simply look past it because never mind a few seconds of bad CGI here and there. But this is the one movie series where they've seemingly sacrificed literally everything else in the name of VFX, so you'd really think they would make sure to nail every shot in that respect.

Did anyone else crack up when James Cameron said that they're looking at fire Navi for the next movie? At this point I'm hoping they do the air nomads and then the Earth Kingdom ones for the next two movies! By then hopefully Jake Sully will have mastered all of the elements so he can once again defeat the same human that keeps dying but keeps being brought back to fight him.

If Elongated Man is the character I'm thinking of, I dropped the show when he was introduced because his introductory episode was about how he was a Good Cop but then lost his job because one measly time he got caught forging evidence but like can we really say that was wrong of him because he was really sure the defendant did it and the defendant was really bad and golly sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do so maybe we shouldn't be so judgmental toward him and ruin this Good Cop's life, doesn't he deserve better?

i don't really remember that being the moral of that episode (i could be wrong, The Flash is wild copaganda in a way that Arrow definitely was not) but gently caress the Elongated Man anyway because his actor just oozes "I'm A Huge rear end in a top hat" energy because as it turns out he's a huge rear end in a top hat

God, watch him do the same plot again. Once again Sully (and/or family) will have to assimilate into a new Na'vi culture with awkward real-life undertones, once again he will bond to a new kind of local animal, once again he will face off against human colonizers exploiting the local ecosystem for a one-of-a-kind sci-fi resource, once again the primary antagonist will be the same loving guy. :negative:

Chronicles is a huge, mad Conan movie in space even down to a "lead character sits on tall throne" shot in the climax. My only major bitch with it is that it's a sequel to Pitch Black. The tonal whiplash from "gritty space horror Western" to "Vin Diesel's D&D campaign but in space" was just too big.

It was funny how they had the cop character quit the force around all the protests but then just introduced a new cop character who filled exactly the same role.
