The actual Empire were shown as monsters. The people who wanted to be like them were shown to be pathetic goobers.

But pathetic goobers who can still do a lot of harm to those around them.

That one side story episode of Mando does that pretty well too. Pershing's a little weenie collaborator and is sad as all hell, while Kane is a dyed in the wool remorseless monster.

It's scary.

In thew movies, making Hux and basically everybody but Vader and Ren, who get redeemed, into a giant loving goober loser fuckface dork chud or a stuffy bureaucrat is exactly how they should be portraying the Empire and First Order and the shows giving us awesome nazis is loving dangerous.

Please stop making the Nazis badass, Gisnep.

Real life nazis are awful and I'm sorry you had to go through that, Jesus.

But this is all really George's fault, as are most things with Star Wars. The NSDAP got their tailoring and fashion designs from Hugo Boss, and George figured that looked iconically evil, so that's why the Empire looks the way it does. Maybe it was less of an actual political concern in the 1970's, but these days, geez Louise.

Anyone who has a full Imperial Stormtrooper costume probably took the time and effort to make it themselves and probably did it out of love for Star Wars and not because they're some kind of Nazi gently caress. If you still think people who make Storm Trooper armor are people you have to fear in real life, check out the 501st Legion who do a lot of fundraising and charity work. These people are cool.

The Darksaber is just a weird looking old Lightsaber, you probably got a bunch of weird looking designs back then before everyone settled on the 'modern' design. Made by the first Mandalorian to become a Jedi, which his family stole from the Jedi Temple after he died. It just became a symbol for Mandalore.

I think there's a Jedi in the High Republic stuff that has a normal Lightsaber with a black and white blade, like the Darksaber, but with the standard cylindrical shape rather than a flat blade.

The Vader VR game had an incredible antique lightsaber design where the kyber crystal was held as a visible focusing lens above the handle hilt itself. Made it a feature, and it *looked* primitive and old but in fully functional way, like how you could still murder someone with an ancient Egyption bronze sword but you have better options now.

I've played Imperial in pretty much every Star Wars game where I had an option to, mainly because the Rebellion has always been a bunch of Mary Sues and Gary Stus, and the Empire always had neater poo poo.

It also didn't help that in SWG every Rebel had the same loving backstory.

When I played the minis games I always gravitate to the Empire because TIEs are cool and so are Star Destroyers (AND they have like double+ the damage output), but often there was just one or two other empire players who were into it too much.

Not nearly as bad as 40k where I dropped the game entirely :smith:

The stats are probably reversed as someone that had to work a lot of cons. Playing a villain is fun for a lot of people and villains are often more interesting than heroes, and thats all it comes down to. As stated earlier, real life Nazis and Chuds identify with the Rebellion.

They felt uncomfortable around a person and that is always a bad time. Even if the stormtrooper cosplayer was the nicest person in the world, they were still dressed up in an attire that was meant specifically to evoke imagery of the Third Reich, inhumanity and faceless fascism.

Don't get me wrong, I love Baby Yoda as much as the next person, but it was a specific design decision, by George Lucas, to model the Empire's aesthetic after the freaking Nazis, and now that we have brand new Nazis running around, it doesn't seem out-landish to at the very least be wary around someone who spent a lot of money and effort on adopting that aesthetic.

There's a huge sliding scale of reasonable to extremely unreasonable reasons to feel uncomfortable around people so no it doesn't always mean the person experiencing discomfort is justified. As I originally said it sucks that if you obviously present as a minority that you don't know where the next discrimination is going to come from but I don't see how being in close proximity to someone wearing one of the most common costumes of the last 40 years, at a convention explicitly encouraging dressing up, is any worse than standing next to any random person in an elevator. I can't imagine how many fictional atrocities have been committed by the vast plethora of characters represented at your average con but imagining that everyone dressed as a villain explicitly supports all of those actions is lunatic.
