I’ve had a tough time finding a really good burger in nyc, honestly, though I haven’t tried very hard either. I live right near Emily but afaik their burger, while well-regarded, uses a mayo-based sauce which is not something I’m really interested in

i guess it kinda depends on how you define "really good" but oh god there are so many. pubs and stuff are usually a good bet, but some of the smaller local chains are real good too

depends on what you want, and you can always order without sauce or butter

best burgers ive had are at steakhouses, with keen's ($26 with fries) or wolfgangs (chain but still good, also like $26 w fries) being my favorites

i'm p sure keens uses butter or mayo to up the flavor profile

i also like white castle and pauls da burger joint, which is obstensibly just a really large white castle burger (and awesome)

the other rub with truffles is they are not that good unless youre eating them right after you harvest them. truffle is fail

there is also a club of people (some of whom are acquaintances) who basically go to every burger spot, order like a hamburger or cheeseburger and rank em and put em on a map, only the top rankers stay on the map (assuming they also stay in business)

Excuse me, pardon me, sheer perfection coming through
there's a place in ottawa i've had the luxury of dining at a couple of times called atelier. it's one of the best restaurants in the country. super creative chef, does a lot of innovative and modern tasting menus.

we did the nye menu one year which was insane and at one course the chef (the unfortunately named marc lepine) came out and just sort of made it rain black truffle onto everyone's plates with a fancy hand grater

thats my truffle story thank you for coming to my ted talk

also was well past buzzed that night even though i ordered the half portion alcohol pairing because the sommelier was a cool dude who just decided to keep filling 'er all the way up

i mean cost of goods is up, rent is definitely up, and ive personally helped at least a dozen people get the gently caress out of hospitality into other roles because it Fuckin Sucks to work as a server/bartender to begin with. i still go out to eat a lot. my friends still serving still have bills to pay and its important to support local joints.
