I'd swap vindi and mech, and probably put druid (and other strong boon providers) a lot higher, but p. good list.

You kinda mixed open world and specialist solo builds together but still, very nice list overall. The only thing I would move is spellbreaker - it does't lack sustain at all (compared to many other builds) thanks to Adrenal Health.

And yeah salvation vindicator is king.

edit: speaking of tier lists, what is the s+ tier lounge? They are currently on sale and I am thinking of picking up one. I am a boring human (+I love Divinity's Reach) so I was thinking Royal Terrace. Do any of the others have some significant perks (I know Mistlock has a fractals portal)?

if you do wvw, the armistice bastion is amazing because you can see the maps and use faction chat in it, and all the wvw vendors are there
mistlock is obviously the best if you do fractals for the easy portal and fractal vendors. always nice when you teleport there, do some fractals, and then return to exactly where you were in the overworld later

if you don't care about either of those, i think royal terrace is the smallest of the bunch, which means everything is really clumped together for easy access
that said, mistlock sanctuary has the beach ball minigame, and a bonus skill that lets you jump to all the npcs real quick

i did but for the most part what makes a good specalist solo build makes for a good open world build too, outside of exceptions like bladesworn where they completely fall apart outside of their niche.

and yeah re: lounges mistlock is pretty good balance between 'everyone nearby' and 'can teleport to it and then back,' plus access to the capital cities and fractals. though it can take a bit longer to load during prime time because it's the most popular lounge. If you don't care about fractal access, Thousand Seas gives the easiest access to the largest number of maps (including lion's arch for fractals), and also gives the teleport back feature, plus a jade bot workbench.

re: open world builds

I'd personally put Willbender in the top of S or in S+. Since I made a guy with this build it's been my go to for doing lws4 bounties and just living through anything in events. It generates full might, fury, and vuln for itself and quickly reaches ~25 stacks of burning which makes it feel bursty even as a condi spec. Amazing healing and good defensive tools with the f2 and f3 willbender abilities on top of Litanty of Wrath and Bow of Truth. The downside is that it's stuck using core guardian weapons which are not interesting or fun.

Soulbeast only has one melee ability typically, axe or torch 5. Otherwise it can play fully ranged with mainhand axe, long bow, warhorn, and shortbow. The ability to unmerge from the pet and and have it tank tougher mobs is very useful, champion bounty type stuff becomes very simple. I don't think it's ultra high tier, but it always feels extremely solid when I play it.

Spellbreaker has permanent stability and feels amazing to play in events where you can leech boons from other players. You easily eat through break bars, which is nice in open world where so few other players use cc. Not as great when truly solo because it has no real boon generation other than the EoD protocol stations.

Also I can recommend thousand seas pavilion lounge. It has the return to map function of mistlock with an extra teleport to a bunch of different zones and having all the fishing bait on a single vendor is nice if you fish ever. It also doesn't strip away the offensive/defensive protocol buffs from EoD, which a minor annoyance I had with mistlock.

It's kind of dumb that that one zone gets: leyline, scarlet incursions, joko incursions, and beetle racing. It's an absolutely stacked zone.

Funny thing is, I want at least one spec of Ele that does just that. All in, balls to the wall commitment to 1 to 2 elements (chosen through the trait lines) where all the utilities and weapon skills drive that single/duo mindedness - maybe even a transformation into an elemental avatar for proper skill usage much like Weave Self's design idea. Full removal of the unselected elements.

You're wrong and dumb, and thank you for posting your (wrong and dumb) list that I definitely didn't read and think about because it's wrong and dumb.

As an addition to your (note: wrong and dumb) list - it'd be helpful when listing stuff to note the actual gear spec. Like I can assume you're talking about celestial vindicator, but I'd assume the same isn't said of Herald or Virtuoso. I honestly don't find condi pistol mech anything to write home about but he's still sitting in cele gear aside from the weapons. My firebrand is super mediocre in open world but he's also in full ritualist so no toughness.

Meeko posted:

Aside from specs that need a specific boon to work I don't find much difference in the two. Healing isn't a given unless you're in the stack and so many people stand out of the stack that's it's often not true there either. I just assume if I'm not raiding then 100% of my survival is my problem.

I don't disagree but I also think that kind of ruined elementalist in a lot of ways in GW2, making it a bastard problem child that needs only the slightest nudge to be broken in pvp and a squishy fragile pain in the rear end to play in pve that has to cycle through elements nonstop. It's kind of the example of the problems that come with letting a class have access to too much baseline.

Truga posted:

it is in theory but staff remains anemic even after the buffs. In open world it's just miserably slow and for some reason still saddled with 3 target cleave autos, and in raids/fractals/strikes it's only really viable on a rather demanding build that abuses weaver's bullshit and dual skills and has to full channel meteor shower which is lol and lmao on many fights.

the only weapon that can realistically camp fire is like, scepter, and in fairness it's pretty solid. It doesn't quite hit the niche of "i am fire wizard blah blah anet buff please 42069 hours" but hey it's the best we got.

Good points. If people're interested I can probably Effort Post up a collection of all the various Good Open World builds/weapons, since i've played just about all of them at this point because I have some sort of crippling alt addiction.

also yeah celestial pistol mech is pretty buns, pistol has an unusually hard condi skew and absolute dogshit power ratios. it has like less than half the power scaling most condi focused weapons do, even, and the way the mech scales doesn't play nicely in the slightest w/ cele for the condi traits. lordhizen's build is the only one that makes it work and that's a weird bastard of a build.

That's what I used. To be generous, I'd call his reel of boss footage selective. It worked ok slow burning against things that didn't summon adds but that leaves out the bulk of the bounty roster. Even then I found it easier to use the rifle just so I could smash breakbars.

In terms of gear I was only talking about the cele/condi/power split. Anyone with experience enough to have a dozen alts probably already knows what you mean when you talk about "open world vindicator", but marking stuff as cele (and therefore booster) goes a long way towards clarity. Outside of that it's just power/condi, so just the small change from Mechanist to Mechanist (power) or Mechanist (cele) where there could be ambiguity is immensely helpful in the context of discussing professions in terms of soloing or ease of play.

Once you know that you can go hit up the usual places and read all the gritty details if you want to build it.

I mean "floating building" was present in a lot of places not explained by being a spaceship. EQ was extremely high fantasy and also a terrible game that explains a lot of the terrible traditions that persist today. The etymology of nerf is probably rooted a lot deeper but for me the birth was always when some guy told a Verant dev that a druid leveled without being in (relative) agony and they basically said "well, gently caress that!"

I may have EQPTSD.

Anyone else playing sword weaver with the class being partially disabled? my dps is way higher than usual. the atunement system is messed up so when you switch elements you get access to the 3rd skill dual attack for a second until it switches to a single element. those are usually the beefiest spells with the class and not having to wait to fully attune between them has me melting mobs.
