I used to love and evangelise about Blood Bowl, but a few factors conspired to make me sour on it. Most notably the 2020 rules, which I think are extremely poo poo and take the game and it's meta in the wrong direction.

Blood bowl reminds me a lot of playing poker. In that there are people who bounce off poker, hard, because of the variance. If you're really good at poker you'll still lose, frequently, because your opponent sucked out on a river card or whatever. But in the long run over thousands of hands, the better player will win the money. And while the rules of poker are fairly straightforward at first glance, there's a lot of depth to the game that is revealed over time with experience. Poker also benefits from being played with nice people and can be ruined by one huge rear end in a top hat at the table. It also seems to attract people who cling to superstition and logical fallacies, but people who maintain perspective and understand the basics of statistics and random chances can excel.

I guess my only comment is I can't name a non-solo tabletop this also applies to. All tabletop games benefit from having cool dudes to play with and all tabletop games suck if your opponent is a shithead.

As opposed to other, more modern board games where a lovely group will not affect your experience at all? Huh? Is Adeptus Titanicus still a good game if your oppenent calls you a slur and spits in your face? What do you mean??? I think Blood Bowl's mechanics are good enough on their own.

Like I literally play non-campaign games of blood bowl all the time. I get shitslapped and I stomp. It's a good game. I actively play blood bowl with randos on FUMBBL a few times a week with no campaign mechanics for shits and giggles.

That’s a bit more hostile of a response than I expected, but broadly: it’s a game that thrives on getting a cohesive group together who are willing to play a season’s worth of games, and a lot of the enjoyment can come from having a good group of people. Obviously a lovely group can make every game bad, but having a mismatched group or getting zero help when you’re dropped in the deep end in a Blood Bowl league will have a greater effect on the enjoyment people get out of it than in one-off games.

Nah, that's not such a big deal. The main thing I dislike is the shift in the meta towards high armour teams (already very good) because of increased attrition in the casualty table.

I do dislike some of the passing rules in that the Wildly Inaccurate result creates some very wonky outcomes, and in particular I rankle at the fact GW were hyping up the passing rules as a big change to make the game more dynamic and exciting, but did a whole lot of stuff to make it happen less.

I also think all the player advancement stuff is just barely warmed-up shite. The addition of random skills as an option means they filled the skill tables with an absolute pile of further bullshit, useless skills in order to have a round number that could be randomised with a dice roll. The game was already full of trap skill choices and they just stuffed a load more in.

running a league is what made BB's flaws become crystal clear to me, personally. it was frustrating to see the ways it was making people miserable, and frustrating to need to compensate for the burnout.

GW has never written good campaign/league/advancement rules for any of their systems, so they pushed the burden of fixing it on their players and it worked. Ya'll should be calling them up asking for paychecks for doing the designer's work for them.

I really dislike Ebay, but yeah, sometimes you have to. Storm Serpent will be worth it when you find one. Portal deployment gives you so many options. 90x90 is doable, but I really like having the sides be 120, a lot of units can easily march 90cms in a single turn. It should still work, you don't tend to march much in minigeddon. You'll need to really watch your blitz turn 3.

I really love Vanguard, great customer service, the sculpts are amazing too. The metal is good, much much better than resin. He does have some resin pieces too, they tend to be rather expensive. He does have an Eldar Super-heavy that you can magnetize to be switchable between each type. Their entire range is great, but does have some holes hear and there. I use a mix of old GW stuff and Vanguard stuff for my Eldar. He's still expanding the Eldar range, he's been adding more infantry choices lately. I don't care for his Eldar vehicles though, I sourced mine from one big lot of old blisters on Ebay. It wasn't cheap, but it was better than if I bought those blisters one at a time. If I bought them again I would get printed ones I think, much more affordable I'd hope.

What are you looking to buy for your army? I always love to list build and see what people are using, especially for minigeddon. Incase you don't use it, armyforge is a great list building tool. http://adam77.github.io/snapfire/war/indexNETEA.html

I play on a 4x3 table for minigeddon, fighting across the 4 ft towards each other, no corner deployment. Sorry if my post was misleading. That seems to be the standard everywhere for minigeddon.

Won a league game of Blood Bowl today with my goblins, thanks in part to the most consistently good chainsaw I’ve ever had - no kickback, managed to MNG their thrower on Turn 1, and lasted the entire half despite getting dropped a couple of times. Rough game for all involved, and ending with only one dead goblin is a success, as there were but two elves on the pitch at the end of the game.

I credit all success to my team’s mascot, the Kosmogrot.

Thank you but I’m in the uk. The random Etsy 3D printer contacted me direct to suggest cutting out the middleman and the prices are way cheaper and the range much larger:

For a cross compatible Epic Eldar minigeddon list that’ll cost about €35 plus shipping:

quote:

Iyanden Eldar NetEpic Armageddon - 1025pts
- Wraithlord Warhost (6) - 350pts
- Wraithguard Warhost (4) - 225pts
- Windrider Jetbike Troupe (6) - 200pts OR Warp Spider Troupe (4) - 175pts
- Storm Serpent Superheavy (1) - 250pt

OR:

quote:

Iyanden NetEpic Gold - 1000pts
Iyanden Wraith host - 500pts:
- Warlock
- 2x 4 wraithlords
- 2x 4 wraithguard
5 Jetbikes OR 4 warp spiders - 200pts
1 Storm Serpent - 300pts

I would probably get both jet bikes, warp spiders, a squadron of void spinners and maybe some wave serpents or falcons go give a tiny bit of flexibility.

I’m taking a small step back while I’m on holiday atm to make sure I’m actually committing to this rather than just a complete whim…

I’m not expecting my games to have the kind of epic strategic scope that the Perry twins can achieve on their 8 x 6 table with thousands of miniatures. I’m after a game that can be completed in a couple of hours max on a 90cm square table that isn’t going to play out exactly the same every time.

I have no interest in playing this with anyone else except my pet opponent, for whom I will have to supply an opposing force and guide through rules regardless. With that in mind does what I’ve suggested above meet those broad requirements? I’ve basically picked what I’d like to look at.

No doubt I will do exactly the same for an opposing force-probably orks? I believe there is a similar parity between netepic Armageddon and netepic gold. It is something like 16 bases of boys, eight bases of nobs, eight bases of goblins, three stompers, four tanks.

Gosh, this one was pretty easy to print and I think I was able to do it on a plate and a half, or maybe just one plate on my Saturn 2. So you could run this off in a weekend and about 300-400g of resin probably. Just guessing for a battleship would probably be 6 print sessions of a full plate, at about 10-12 hours each, and 3kg of resin. Just rough guesses. This one model was made as a special display piece by Soulforge Studios, and to my knowledge they have not done any bigger ships in display scale. They have lots of ships and it would be possible to scale them up for printing, but I don't know if they have the level of detail.
