Spud's mom doesn't seem to be anything like Gramma K and we've never seen baby pics of Spud in a Wonder Bread bag onesie tied off with an electrical cord. I don't think there's going to be violent abusive retribution or anything. Spud just doesn't want to bring a bad grade home.

They've established in older stories that there are actual criminals in that prison, so I assume this is their way of making sure the audience knows that the phantom isn't letting the serial killers and rapists out along with the political prisoners.

And I'm pretty sure that a fascist regime would never falsely accuse someone or use fabricated evidence.

The comic uses Tukkipokki and Pokki as interchangeable names. Pokki is a real (rare) Finnish last name, while "Tukki" means log, so "Tukkipokki" is probably a nickname. Google doesn't give a single hit with that word (probably will find this thread from now on).

These kinds strips are my least favorite Forths and make me agree with Transmodiar briefly. Let's get back to some character growth with grandma.

They always feel like they're trying to capture the Achewood "magical realism" arcs but the general absurdity of Achewood's setting is what makes them work, and that just literally cannot translate over to the mostly grounded reality of Sally Forth.

I know that the Phantom has always been a comic about a white authoritarian punching guys and putting them in jungle jail, but it still feels weird to have a massive prison break and then the hero says "hey you can keep these ones" to the fascist warden.

There's also the element of using Bangallan laws to determine who gets to be freed and who doesn't. There's a strong undercurrent of imperialism there.

This is my reasoning too but we also have to remember that the Phantom went there to make sure the serial killer he likes is freed. It's a messy bit of morality all around. Also "well I can't just close this prison down forever because the fascist regime will restaff their fascist prison with new fascists" is not very satisfying for story closure. :haw:

Imperialism! In the Phantom of all places! Next you'll tell me that he's going to infringe on the sovreignty of a secret animal people society that lives undergroun- wait I'm being handed a note.

But yeah, it's pretty hosed up if you think about it critically for like 5 minutes.

She's done the Phantom some favors (like getting Diana out of the same prison iirc), so he owes her.
