We don't need Rome telling us what to do.
I got my first games of heresy in this week as part of an escalation league. Lost both games but I had a blast doing it. For legions I picked traitor Death Guard, and now I am thinking of rewriting my initial 3k point list because bodies with lascannons carried me through the night. Next on the painting deck is a unit of Tartaros termies with lighting claws.

Dang this game is pretty fun. The game sizes were small but in general I felt a lot less bored during my opponent’s turns, and I am happy to see that reactions are making it into other GW games. Also now I want to paint like two more legions.

Not a big fan of the head options...

On the other hand, it giveth with one hand and taketh with the other:

Alas, this is the last we’ll see from Heresy Thursday for a short while, as Legions both Traitor and Loyalist take time to rest and replenish their forces. There’ll still be some major reveals to see at Warhammer Fest in just two weeks’ time, and Heresy Thursday will return to its regular slot later this year with more reveals for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy.

In the meantime, there’s an Exemplary Battles article coming very soon featuring a download of the much-anticipated Imperialis Militia army list, and a little further down the line is the full army list for the Daemons of the Ruinstorm.

At least the Imperialis Militia will be here :unsmith:

I hope the daemons list retains the build-a-demon style. Kitbashing and customizing and generally just making my little guys unique to me is my favorite part of the hobby and one of the reasons I was drawn to 30k. I would love to cook up some especially weird little guys for my esoterist to summon

I guess not.

It just kind of sucks being in limbo. I want to keep adding to my army but I'm hesitant to buy anything from FW because I don't know if we'll be getting a plastic version later.

I think I'll see if i can have fun with the militia and daemons until then.

Yeah I have zero desire to work on a new legion with any gusto because Mk6 doesn't do it for me. I have more than I'd want in one force from the AoD box. Not redoing the Mk3 and Mk4 kits was so lame, especially as they hadn't been available for months before 2.0 launched.

The MkVI kit is incredibly well done, but MkVI is also my least favorite by far of the Heresy-era armors. I ran out of steam after assembling a few squads of them, despite going ham and grabbing several of the boxed sets. Piles upon piles of MkVI Marines just doesn’t scratch the same itch that the older Mks do.

I think I’ve actually ended up printing more MkIVs in the last year than I have assembled MkVIs.

How in the gently caress am I supposed to put the shoulders, cape, and backpack on my sword Praetor at the same time?

E: figured it out, you have to glue the pads on the body then the pack to the cape at an unexpected angle. Then the carpe to the shoulders and hope for the best.

I forget, can squads split fire in 30k? If not there’s value in just forcing your opponent’s units to waste their turns firing at your dinky rear end levy squads

...and on a 4+... (clatter, clatter) THEY ARE BACK.

e: Vehicles with pintle/defensive weapons and/or sponsons that have different targets in their arcs can split, but like a Heavy Support squad with heavy bolters just has to dump them all in one unit.

It's about time for my once per decade ban for being a consistently terrible poster.
You can do all sorts of silly fun things [Which is the point of the Militia in 30k, build your own army]. Want jacked up Ogryns that are 5 WS on the charge and wielding 2 axes with FNP? Go for it. Want a bunch of rocketeer dudes from a high tech world blasting around the field for you? Do it up. Want to have your opponent to go "I just killed 20 units turn one, this is madness" only to roll a double handful of dice and go "19 units just entered reserves and you don't even get points for the one unit you did kill"? Be that guy!

Have some daemons, have more tanks, have just a trillion dudes with lasrifles. Just all the dudes, all the rifles. Hey, they even have less restrictions than the old Provenance system as far as I can see, and they apply to more units. They really did a good job with this, I was just expecting a basic copy paste for a free release. Good job GW.

e: I'm wondering if I could put half a dude with a spear in the arms of an Ogryn to make a Mounted Force Commander.

ee: I still love that Malefic Supplicant says you don't get any Psychic Disciplines, weapons, or powers....but the core says if you gain Psyker but don't get access to Psychic Disciplines for any reason you can pick a Core Discipline. And as far as I know they never errated that. So hey, Psyker Commander I guess?

I absolutely did not expect them to got his loving hard on provenances. I did not expect more provenances.

But what helps, I feel, is that they wrote rules with Necromunda minis in mind. Jetpack recons with akimbo pistols? Orlock Wreckers. Mounts not just being horse all day long? Ash waste poo poo. Beast handlers? For all the NM animals.

Still, the previous book was great, but it still didn't offer:
This army list is nothing but bikes
Needler the Provenance
Ogryns? Yes.
10 Man Grenadier squads with special weapons
OGRYN SARGE WITH AN AUTOCANNON
