I honestly don't think I would be all that excited about a Galaxy Quest show tbh. Lower Decks already fills the niche of "comedy trek." It was a good movie, I liked it, but if you want to make a comedy trek, you're Paramount, just do it. Like you're already doing.

Galaxy Quest works as a satire because the premise is that TOS was so ridiculous that it is already a parody of itself and the real joke is 'what if you had to take this all seriously'.

I just don't trust Paramount to understand that.

I have a question because this detail irritates me to no end:

Why do SNW and Disco take place in the same relative time frame but the Starfleet uniform is so different? Why don't the Disco crew just have the cool updated SNW uniforms in s1-s2?

Why do a Enterprise/ TOS Mashup with the uniform?

Do they ever explain why Starfleet at that point has two standard uniforms? Are there like different divisions/ branches or something?

I think the captain gets to decide what everyone wears. There were also different uniforms in the same time periods for TNG, DS9, and Lower Decks. And there was the Generations movie where everyone wore whatever the hell they wanted.

I never got that. They started filming Generations pretty much directly after TNG finished. Did Paramount lose their costumes? Were they trashed? Why did they need to raid the DS9 wardrobe to dress Riker when he had worn a perfectly serviceable uniform like two weeks prior?

The new uniforms fell through at the last minute and after they finished TNG a lot of people took the uniforms as keepsakes I think.

What I’ve always heard is that since the TNG uniforms had been worn for hundred of hours by that point they didn’t think they’d hold up to film standards.

Discovery gave Yeoh a prominent role on a flagship program where her casting had little to do with her ethnicity. It's possible that, in addition to the money, she has some positive feelings towards the production. Not that I'm implying that she owes Paramount or Star Trek a damned thing.

Secretly force socialism, communism and imperialism types of government onto the people of the United States of America.

Yeah, setting aside my own opinions of Discovery, and her character arc, she definitely seemed to enjoy the role. Seems like a fairly solid endorsement of ... something over at Paramount on her part. She certainly did not have the same experience that Tom Hardy did with the franchise.

Film actors do TV and streaming all the time now because of the low time commitment. This isn’t the 80s anymore where actors are doing TV movies because they don’t have a choice.

With a new show and a TV movie coming and Picard ending for good, maybe it’s finally time for me to write a new OP. The current one was written before Lower Decks even premiered and still mentions the now-dead Khan miniseries as a future project.

I'm struggling to understand how a Galaxy Quest series would work. Are they making "the show Galaxy Quest as featured in the movie Galaxy Quest", like it's actually those characters having space adventures, a la Buzz Lightyear? Because that's literally just Star Trek. The show, in-universe, wasn't a parody or a comedy or anything, it's just a stand-in for Star Trek. And it's a very thinly fleshed-out stand-in, because all of the references are just obvious Trek tropes that the audience is expected to be familiar with; it's not like there's some deep well of Galaxy Quest lore waiting to be explored, it's literally "whatever happened in Star Trek with some names changed around".

Like, it's one thing if you don't have the rights to Star Trek but want to make your own series in that vein so you call it The Orville, but this is like MGM buying the Austin Powers franchise to make a serious spy movie using those characters instead of just making James Bond movies.

And don't get me wrong, I love Galaxy Quest, it's a charming and clever movie, but it's very self-contained and doesn't really have much to expand on.
