in the replies someone is claiming the robot is lying about the recipe, too. not that i'm in a position to see, being a humble dumbass who knows nothing of chemistry. and that's why this stupid thing is so pernicious. if i ask it to speak on something i am ignorant about and it lies, how do i know?

Naplam is indeed a fuel and a thickening agent so it sticks to things and doesn't just evaporate immediately. Adding an oxidiser doesn't initiate an exothermic reaction by itself. Igniting it certainly does though

So boring shower thought: These new chatbots are, at this point, not just wrong about things, but lack any ability to distinguish true from untrue information. And this is something that 90% of people notice pretty quickly. It produces unusable code, cites fake authors, makes illegal chess moves, and most obviously and amusingly makes grammatical mistakes that a desk calculator wouldn't. And the thing is that there are people out there designing stuff that does produce novel, useful, accurate information. Genetic algorithms have been in use for years producing clever, and frequently bizarre, engineering solutions. But weird AI boosters aren't impressed with this, they're impressed with a chatbot that tells you 10x10=1010. The one thing that these bots do is that they string together GAD-compliant grammatical sentences. Which is pretty impressive in its own right, but is far, far removed from "intelligent." And this makes me think of the coworkers I have who, having grown up in either West Africa or using AAVE, tend to use grammatical constructions that are not GAD-compliant. But this has little bearing on whether or not they know their poo poo, and its pretty easy to evaluate their arguments and ideas. I get that if you're not familiar with the grammatical differences that makes it a little harder but that's a pretty readily acquired skill. Anyway, my point is that the people who are fooled by chatGPT are people who think that intelligence is just using "proper" grammar. They don't think that accurate information, or novel ideas, or good judgment, or consistency, or any of that is part of intelligence. All of that is subordinate to "proper grammar." If you speak with "proper" English you're smart, if you don't you're dumb. God I hate these assholes.
