It undercuts the "appology" but I don't know how much credibility any statement made under duress at law-point actually has.

I'd argue that that guy, Cam's(?), statement had this. There was a little thing at the end something like, 'I am admitting this because Zack sued me' - which I honestly read as, 'hey, gently caress this guy, I would still be warning people about him if I could.'

...but that could just be me.

His statement specifically stated it was part of a settlement or that they settled so it's clear that it was part of the agreement

Part of this (mis)perception is that law/cop dramas try to make it look like a settlement is "you got me dead to rights, so let's settle so I can avoid a messy trial and/or a harsher sentence"

While I agree that law and cop dramas are terrible and give people badly skewed views of how courts and laws work: a plea bargain in a criminal prosecution where the defendant agrees to plea guilty to lesser charges is, actually, a formal statement of guilt put down on your permanent record along with a court-imposed penalty; whereas a settlement in a civil lawsuit is neither of those things, it's a binding agreement to end this civil suit which the judge looks over and stamps so that one party can't renege on the deal agreed to later.

And with that in mind, that's why you can't nudge-nudge-wink-wink too much with a statement required by the settlement: if you violate the agreement, the counterparty can take you back to court over it.

I imagine that you can make it clear in your statement that it is part of a legal settlement, and if asked about it, you can say "As part of a legal settlement, I cannot comment on this matter" or similar, right?

Even though they've been nothing but horrible, I find myself feeling a little bit of sympathy for the trans people he's recruited. Like, Cusack has been very open about the fact that she connected with Zak when she was coming out and in a really bad place. She calls him her mentor, a "saint," the most brave and courageous person she's ever known. There's nothing funny about how awful it's going to be when she eventually falls short of his impossible standards and winds up on the list of Salieris with the rest of us.

(Plus, this is a guy with a history of sockpuppeting through his friends' accounts, and the stuff she says about him is exactly what he'd say about himself.)

Turns out Crit Role are making their own TTRPG's

quote:

We’re also thrilled to finally announce that Darrington Press has not one, but TWO new RPG systems releasing in the next year and we’re super excited to preview both online and IRL this year at Gen Con!

The first being Illuminated Worlds, a d6 dice pool system, designed for shorter, arc-driven, campaigns and packaged in a way that it can be used with any type of setting you can think of. It was created by two incredible game designers that we have so much love for, Stras Acimovic and Layla Adelman. Another brand new system that is still in development that we want to briefly dish on is Daggerheart—a fun and fresh update to the fantasy genre of RPGs that is designed for long-term campaign play and character progression.

Prooobably means they are moving away from D&D whenever those systems are ready.

Hard to understate how much of an own-goal driving Crit Roll off of your system is. Like there’s an enormous amount of folks that will leave with them just because they wanna play what Mercer and their favorite characters/people are playing.

Zak's a manipulative narcissist who plenty of people have described as putting up a very charming, caring front when it suits him. He's also gone on long rants about how people he classifies as enemies are people he vows to use total war tactics against to destroy completely. They're two sides of the same coin: that to him there's one real person in the world: himself, and everyone else is a pawn to play with or an obstacle to smash. It's also why it's impossible to say which of his defenders are people he's wooed into defending him (or cajoled because he does that too), people he's posting through by grabbing their social media accounts or giving them verbatim stuff to say, or actual sockpuppets, and why the distinction between them doesn't functionally matter much.

The lawsuits are because he wants to hurt people, and because he's hoping to silence enough voices that he can slowly slide his way into relevance again with people who have never heard of him. Like how Satine Phoenix and Jamison Stone retreated to the relative safety of their instagrams and are hoping to slowly rebuild their base from there. And I don't know... it's certainly a gambit that works a lot of the time in other industries. TTRPGs are so online and gossipy and small that it might be harder? But more obviously scummy people like Ken Whitman and that BESM guy have dipped in and out of the space without much issue so...

Agreed, Stras is legitimately very good and deserves a broader audience. "Packed in a way that it can be used with any type of setting" doesn't exactly set my heart on fire, but I'll be curious to see his take on it.

All I can find about Adelman is that they're on the Ennies judges panel and they have good taste in games, having nominated the transcendently perfect Sleepaway in 2019. Zero public presence aside from that, as far as I can tell.
