If those carpenter bees get within 3 ft of me I am losing my mind and potentially sprinting away. They do seem pretty chill though as my freaking out seems to make them fly away

The males don't even have a stinger, and you have to try pretty hard to get the females to actually use theirs.

That bee was probably landing on their arm to lick the sweat off (everybody needs salt). I remember I had a butterfly last year landing on my forehead to lick the salt off. I shooed it away, but it kept returning, so I gave up and just sat down on a rock in defeat. Also as a PSA, don't try your girl's flowery shampoo before a big hike. I've had bees wriggle themselves into my hair looking for pollen. That's a bit scary.
