it doesn't "rely on people buying it as real" any more than a photoshop of biden kissing trump does. it's just a dumb joke post from a joke posting account, that, because twitter is a terrible platform, goes viral and appears in people's normal feeds, who then uncritically accept it at face value because they're tired, stupid, high, lazy, whatever, and then gets reposted as "woah look at this real thing!" or "can't believe this guy's trying to pass this off as real, what a jerk!", and before you know it everyone's WORKED THE gently caress UP ONLINE not me though  also yes we're on a dead forum in a thread about elon musk. our suffering is legendary, even in hell. Corporate leadership basically abandoned the actual reason people went to RadioShacks, for projects and components, and decided we should focus on nothing but cellphones and batteries. All the electronic parts were shunted into a corner and left to rot for the most part so the people who actually frequented RadioShack stopped coming. We got to the point where we wouldn’t see a customer for the entire day because of this decision. Instead we had to try to sell batteries with anything and everything. It got to the point where if you didn’t sell a mega pack of double AAs with a cellphone corporate wanted your manager to sit down and ask you why they didn’t buy batteries with a cellphone. Everyone besides regional managers knew it was bullshit and luckily that’s when I left for better jobs

One time I needed a 2.5 mm to 3.5mm converter for a headset and RadioShack was the only store that had one and it was like 55 cents Every other place said that didn't exist and said I needed a new headset RadioShack just wasn't designed for this new world where you gotta upsell

I don't remember if I post this on either thread, but I remember a good while ago when Elon posted a playlist of music he liked, and all of them were classical music save for one track, which was Andrea Boccelli's Time To Say Goodbye, and that was probably like one of the only moments I've seen him put out something not clouded by a floating funko pop or some sort of world spanning sentiment but rather "Yeah, I believe a 50 year old sorta-European guy would put that particular song on his playlist, specially if he was like 30 or so when he heard it for the first time."
