in the late 2000s i only knew one kid who had a laptop in school and he just brought it so he could grind WoW when he was skipping class. it was an old school Alienware and it got so hot that he melted the surface of one of those lovely faux wood tables in a student lounge area

bud for regular people school-issued computers were being phased in around 2015, and half of the schools in the US got stuck on a lovely ipad contract for 3 years before switching to chromebooks because google's backend is way more convenient for schoolwork. so the average high school has had low-power laptops for 5-8 years now. perhaps 10 on the outside. absolutely nobody but people who talk about "my dad and his executives" had school-issued laptops in 2000. maybe there was one, in the whole school, for disability accommodation.

The early 1990s marked the beginning of modern media technology such as CD-ROMs as well as the development of modern presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint.[3] Other computer-based technology including the electronic whiteboard[8] and the laptop computer became widely available to students. Internet technologies were also gaining prevalence in schools. In 1996, Bill Clinton made over $2 billion in grants available in the Technology Literacy Challenge Fund, a program which challenged schools to make computers and the Internet available to every student, connected to the outside world, and engaging. This marked a significant increase in the demand for computer technology in many public school systems throughout the globe.

I went to a bougie-rear end high school of generally well-off nerd kids in nyc in the second half of the 2000s and I didn't know a single one who had a laptop in class. computer classes were done in a dedicated lab where there were rows of desktops. certainly there were no school-issued laptops holy moly I am losing my poo poo is this the power of three olives posting

It really is quiet breath taking he keeps going up to these organizations and smugly going “Wanna keep being the reason people use my shorty website? Pay me half a million dollars every year” only for them to peace out over and over again. Master business man

I don't think this says what you think its saying. At no point is it saying "Around the year 2000, schools starting issuing laptops to all students."

I graduated in high school '05. Even then, we had the "computer lab." Nobody had laptops.

I went to a pretty lovely public school in Australia around 2007 and there was a laptop program but you had to pay extra and we couldn't afford it.

It's was fine though b/c the laptop students were all deemed ultimate nerdwads until proven otherwise.

I was doing a COBOL class at a tech school that year. I think my high school had a web design class that focused on Microsoft Frontpage or whatever and that was about as technical as it got. That and a class on Microsoft Office.

Really though, the classes were mostly pretending to work, which has been an invaluable life skill.
