I guess this is a reasonable time and place to ask: are there any actually good gaming podcasts out there? I never listened to the Waypoint one and Giant Bomb never did it for me. I did used to enjoy the Easy Allies podcast but nobody after Kyle Bosman left has been a particularly good podcast host so I stopped listening a couple years ago.

I don't really listen to any gaming podcasts at all these days (all my podcast listening is comedy stuff and nerdy linguistics or history podcasts) so I don't really know what's out there.

Triple Click is decent. I also like Get Played, it had a rough start when they had to be a comedy podcast about bad videogames but vastly improved once they got to talk about whatever they wanted. Depending on where your comedy podcast tastes fall you might recognize some of the names since it's on Earwolf. Abnormal Mapping is good too but it's more of a monthly game club podcast than a general gaming one.

One time i prank called a bear buildin workshop and said I wanted my mamaws ashes put in a teddy from where she loved them things so well... The woman on the phone did not skip a beat. She just said, "Brang her on down here. We've did it before."
I'm gonna miss hearing Renata Price talk about her various hosed up little guys.

I do listen to some Earwolf podcasts (Comedy Bang Bang, Threedom, etc.) so I'll check that out. Abnormal Mapping could be kind of cool, too.

I listen to Castle Superbeast. It's Pat and Woolie, formerly of Super Best Friends Play. Coupla funny dumbasses shooting the poo poo about their lives and video games for a few hours, good fun. Woolie uploads clips from the Twitch stream to his LP channel Woolie Versus, if you want to dip in and get a preview of what it's like.

I wonder if it has to do with the specific sex negativity pervasive in game journalism. Like those articles puritans would be proud of praising Ashley not wearing a skirt in the re4make but also (making the puritans less proud) gushing over tramp stamp speedo Leon mods.

Don't get me wrong as a gay dude I love speedo Leon but the different tone of how those things are written about is weird.

This is interesting, I admit that a "Ashley Adjustments (DD version)(fixed)" mod would make me roll my eyes but a "Tramp Stamp Skin (Leon) BETA" would make me hoot and holler, I have some self-examination to do.

i dont really care how good the articles or the xcom streams or whatever are because thats insanely transactional. there is in fact no amount of Good Content i would accept if its coming from the website that did virulent transphobia. that is in fact why i dont have "more" or "better" examples to cite because i chose to not keep up with the output of a website that did that kind of transphobia. i genuinely cant imagine being so hard up for streams or podcasts that you have to defend the transphobia as just "lovely but ultimately doesnt matter" or "a misstep" to me, a something awful poster that you can just choose to go "darn, thats a different opinion than mine" and we can all just agree that its bad to have your job taken away for no reason. a position everyone can agree on and no one has to go to bat for bigotry to defend.

yeah itd be one thing if they posted a proper apology but even their apologies were backhanded and stupid. like i, personally, had to be the one to scrub the mention of that dumb drama from red strings club's wikipedia page, and argue with wikipedia admins about it, because 90% of that game's wikipedia page was about how it had been declared transphobic by the jedi council and nobody should ever play it.

i didnt even like the stupid game on its own merits but like, thats the real world consequences of a major Games Journalism Website doing stupid crap like that, it gets written down as accepted fact on a theoretically objective site.

Instead on streams you have to worry about getting your rear end banned because Twitch has such uneven moderation lol.

It's a genuine thing streamers need to worry about, and considering folks can lose partner/affiliate status over some random thing potentially out of your control it's not surprising to see a streamer sensitive over it.

Very important for streams that have you click thru an age gate due to mature content not block gore and very realistic violence, which are fine, unlike a boob.

Lol didn't a bunch of people get banned from Twitch for playing Crime Boss: Rocky City because the Kim Basinger character's model had fulley modeled nipples and there was a glitch that would randomly make her top clip out of existence

Probs gonna play the new Jedi Outcast game once a good sale hits- liked the original but I felt like the combat just never got developed enough to feel great. Loved all the environments and it strangely reminded me of the old 70s Star Wars movies more than anything else that's come out in the recent past.

So yeah if the new one has better combat and there's no weird PC issues like on the last one (nothing gamebreaking but I noticed it topping out my CPU and being limited by that somehow) and they haven't hosed up the retro-SW vibe I'll still be sorta interested to see it.

I've played about 50 hours of tower defen(s/c)e games this month, between Sol Survivor and Defense Grid. Feels like this genre died a very quiet death in a hidden corner somewhere around 2013. I have a suspicion that the possibility space for gameplay was actually super narrow and nobody ever really figured out ways that they could innovate on it further.

the reviews i've read indicate that it's basically the first game with more open world elements and a dreadful PC port that's struggling to hit 30 FPS on beef PCs, so waiting for a sale is in your best interest

these waypoint moments seem like singular disconnected points in time and not necessarily a pattern of malicious behavior, especially considering the person who wrote the RSC article left like 6-7 years ago

its reasons to criticize them and tell them what they did was harmful, so i'm not like, really disagreeing that strongly. but i'm still fine with people amplifying the good pieces they ran. maybe it's because these bad articles are easier to pin on two people, the writer and the EiC who let it run, rather than the entire site. like the idiot that wrote the harry potter porn article for Kotaku

i'm still gonna laugh at the playful sexuality tweet which i think austin walker deleted. can't take that from me

e: i don't have all my thoughts fully formed on this subject yet but given how many sites have freelance/guest writers, games journalism feels a lot more individualized despite the big bannerheads. it's always a big deal when a writer leaves one site and goes to another for example. or when a group of writers get laid off. that's why whenever ppl would respond to an article on kotaku with "TYPICAL KOTAKU" i'd think 'what is typical kotaku', because their lineup of writers and even editors changes frequently. the dumbass who wrote that cis people couldn't find bayonetta attractive for example wasn't at kotaku a year prior to writing that article. so i guess that's why i don't mind people sharing cool articles from waypoint because a number of them likely were guest spots or freelanced or from people who left years ago or w/e
