Nah, gamings 9/11 should be something that is a significant and meaningful loss to gaming. Lawbreakers was not that by any definition.

I've been playing a lot of it, its pretty janky between being early access and also procgen tbh but its crazy, how hard it sells the fantasy of being a detective. getting a case and seeing how flimsy your clue is, and then coming up with an investigation plan that actually ends up narrowing your leads until you find your guy, is incredibly satisfying

when you get a case thats like, "theres a 26 year old guy in this apartment building that has something I want", and the building has like 60 apartments in it and your first instinct is to throw this dumb case in the garbage until you realize The Trick that breaks that case wide open. that's powerful stuff

I have a case like that whats the trick??

Wrong, it was when a bunch of terrorists flew planes into an original Xbox

It wasn't a big deal though as the airliners were too small to do meaningful damage to it

heres a shadows of doubt tip for everyone btw: if you install the height augment, do not fully upgrade it. if your height is, fully augmented, you have to crouch to walk through doors

It was just a departure of the norm, which is why they're bringing Kiryu back again for another side story , all the side story madness is still there.

I've been having fun with Shadows of Doubt too but idk the procedurally generated stuff is wearing me down and it seems like most cases boil down to getting some fingerprints/breaking into their workplace or looking up their government record to get the matching fingerprint record. The steps inbetween that where you're trying to figure out who's involved are neat but it's hard not to notice how samey the procgen makes everything feel with every apartment having all the same identifying documents for each resident/a sticky note three feet away from every safe + computer saying "the code is 1234 - remember to shred this!!"/the same set of spam emails on every computer (which never seem to have any relation to the case)

Talking to people in general feels like a waste of time because you can't do extremely basic detective stuff like asking people questions about the murder/alibi etc (though I was able to track someone down from just a photo by asking strangers if they'd seen the person) also from the murders/side cases I've done it doesn't seem like there's ever much of a motive (there was one where the victim had a note from the killer saying "you weren't worthy" or w/e but the killer was just some guy from HR at their work with nothing I could find suggesting a motive on their computer or at their apartment)

Also it's weird you get an alert that a murder has happened but then you have to sneak into the crime scene because you're trespassing?? Also you don't have permission to look around their workplace so you have to break in or bribe someone idk it's silly

I know those complaints aren't really fair for an early access game, it's still pretty impressive - I wanna see what it looks like in a year or two

games journalism (lol)'s relationship with sex basically vacillates between being insanely creepy in the name of 'sex positivity' and yelling about how anyone who likes tits is destroying feminism. often at the same time.

for instance kotaku ran an article about bdsm porn games, some people said that some of the games featured were weird, like one that straight up featured kidnapping, and the author went into replies to yell about how they were all weird nerds mad that they didnt include sexist hentai games.

heck just 'heres weird bondage porn i like' is whatever. i mean putting it on a major gaming news website (lol) that kids probably read (well probably not in 2023 but you know, theoretically) is weird as hell but just writing it and even discussing what you like about it, sure, i can get that. but like, dont try and spin it as sex positive queer liberation or w/e. come on.

NPCs are mostly worthless but I have had a few cases where I just have a photo and have been able to track people down by showing the photo around. especially if you happen to get a good hit off cctv, which is, very rare i'm pretty sure the cctv system is broken

for the trespassing thing, that part makes sense to me. you're freelance, you're basically an ambulance chaser listening to your scanner for murder cases, and no one really wants you around
