Really if you’re a true Star Citizen fan you should ensure that you live within 500 meters of an AWS Data Center. Otherwise any network issues are your fault.

Utter bullshit - there are no reasons why it should be abandoned or die a slow death. It already has features other game development studios would love to get their hands on.The

Very worst thing that could happen if support dried up is that it is partially dumbed down to the standard of other AAA games.

Chris is not the idiot people who hate him make out - he keeps a reserve in the bank, he has his own millions and he knows he could go to banks for loans or investors if the absolute worst happened.

It's not going to happen because this community wouldn't let it.

Middle age roots of Starcitizen world building? posted:

I recently began reading Norman Cohn's book "The Pursuit of the Millenium", abot millenarians in the middle ages. (I think parts from it were cited in a William Gibson novel, that's why.)

It is all about people who believe things are bad, very bad, but if they just hold out for a little while, a god or other powerful figure will intervene, things will drastically improve, and a new world will become available for everyone who will then live happily ever after (except for the unbelievers).

It sounded eerily familiar. But it is nice to see that traditions like that are upheld even in computer gaming, don't you think?

quote:

Good grief - this one is a stretch. The Millenarians like all 'believers' in invisible sky gods had to believe without any external evidence what-so-ever, they only had the word of the charlatans who herded them like sheep and prey on them.

Star Citizen and CIG produce evidence of both their existence and progress on a regular basis, you don't have to 'believe it' you can actually see it. Does that mean it's always sunshine and roses, no, but then only the gullible truly believe in some 'perfect path' to nirvana, the rest of us know it takes struggle and work to achieve the best.

I’ve been watching some reviews for Jedi Survivor and it can’t even hit 40fps on a 4090 with most of the settings on low. It’s like they purposefully set out to take the crown of worst optimized game away from Star Citizen.

Which is sort of interesting as it runs on UE4.

Maybe they'll get it fixed over time (works for me, 70€ is a bit rich for my sensible spending habits, such as buying a 600€ Lego ISD and not finishing building it because it was a pain to assemble).

I also want to know what supposed unique features they imagine that SC has and that others are clamouring for? As in, stuff it actually has, as opposed the dreams that it's supposed to have — at some point — that others won't also have at the time it comes out (if ever).

If that was true they would have well-attended talks at every GDC that end in furious applause. This is what real developers that produce innovative technologies do because they want to show it off.

I don't think they have had a talk at GDC since the original announcement in 2012.

I am really curious about this as I have a 6600 and I get 75 fps average and no hitching. It rarely drips below 60fps even in serious combat or in huge environments.

I play on all high settings but I do play ray tracing off and at 1080p.

Maybe not try to play it with ray tracing at 4k?

So my review is the game is cool and good and a nice sequel to the first one.

If Star Citizen should teach us any lesson at all it is this:

Never pre-order.
Don't listen to the blind praise of early adopters. Wait a good while so people without previous investment in whatever is released can give it an honest appraisal.

Then buy the completed product, unless you are already playing other games. If you are, put it on a wishlist and forget about it until you get the on sale notification.

Yeah reviewers are finding like a weird FPS cap that any change in settings or hardware can’t get past. People with 4090s/i9 13900ks are only seeing ~30% GPU utilization and two CPU cores at around ~70%.
