Having a short series with the concept being a no holds barred cross country race rather than a death match doesn't seem like a bad idea because Twisted Metal characters are about interesting enough to dedicate an episode each worth of content to.

If you need an everyman protagonist audience insert that wins the race, have them be a character that has had a lot of misfortune and hard luck - then have them swerve and take the mantle from Callisto and leave it ambiguous if they're gonna reform the tournament or just use his role to do revenge.

I doubt it gets the budget for Fury Road stunts, though, so it's probably gonna be really bad

the thing about the severance procedure is that its ludicrously convoluted compared to a non disclosure agreement and theres no obvious reason why lumon needs such hardcore secrecy given that the actual job consists of incoherent nonsense to someone whos not familiar with the other parts of the project like just hiring a reasonably sized team of security guards would be more effective for that purpose and less expensive by orders of magnitude

gently caress now that i noticed that im like ninety percent sure the explanation is going to be a really stupid thing that wont even get into why they dont hire security guards

My friend insisted we all watch Severance together because he heard it was really good and had a definite ending. It was entertaining enough, but I was so pissed when we had four or three episodes left and I realized there was no way it would get wrapped up in a single season, looked it up, and saw that a second season was announced.

$20,000,000 an episode, holy poo poo.

The problem is that people are just going to watch assuming it is a puzzle box and if every thread doesn’t connect with each other there is going to be massive disappointment.

They probably could still do at least one more season about it but focus it more on the broader ramifications of what this means for society than a super-secret plan. It probably isn’t enough to get people to tune in so Lumen is going to spread its tech across America to take control or something.

TBH, I found the first 3 episodes to be tedious and wouldn't hold up on repeated viewings unless you're really slow. Laundry-folding tier there. It gained momentum to one of the best season finales in recent memory, and I'd recommend watching it, but there's no way they can resolve the major plotlines to the audience's satisfaction "oh yeah we faked your wife's death and keep her underground...as a joke"

I wish the puzzle box tv genre would die, nothing's ever going to top or even come close to Westworld's first season at pulling it off so well. Even fuckin Lord of the Rings Amazon show had to be a puzzle box which did it absolutely no favors.

IDK why they didn't just do the whole cycle of Sauron showing up as Annatar the Lord of Gifts and his slow seduction of the elven smiths and Celebrimbor into becoming his unwitting dupes in forging the Rings of Power and the attempt to take over Middle-Earth. It's a good, compelling story and you could take the opportunity to introduce all of the human and dwarf lords who got their respective rings, maybe show what the Witch King was like before he was Sauron's servant. All sorts of poo poo.

so i watched black panther 2 on an airplane and figured i should answer the all important question is it socialist?

well first of all i can see why the libs loved it since the movie seemingly addresses the whole uh cia good??? criticism of the first movie by making the cia bad in this one of course the fact that our heroes are treating the cia being bad the same way a normal person might treat a dog making GBS threads on the carpet still suggests that the cia being bad is just an unavoidable reality of the world not being ruled by magical black royalists but alas

its deeply funny to me that people seriously thought angela bassett was going to win an oscar for this because as far as i can tell her entire character is just I AM ANGRY THAT MY SON DIED to the point that a subvillain for a future potential films main grievance is that this is a really stupid ethos for running a country but hes i dunno if hes a villain or not actually i never saw the first movie and this one barely even tries to explain who he is but it feels like hes supposed to be wrong because hes a man telling women what to do

while this was mainly due to the real life event of chadwick boseman dying i cant help but find it a little absurd in the greater mceu context how this obviously major event that affects the whole trajectory of the movie takes place completely offscreen i swear theres like one or two of these between every movie now the only exception i can think of is thor 3 and infinity wars and thats just because the beginning of infinity wars is literally the ending of thor 3

as far as the actual plot the whole thing just seems to be an outrageous miscommunication namors pissed that the cia is loving around in the ocean looking for vibranium so he destroys their poo poo and youd think this would be a good enough warning shot but he decides to try and bully wakanda into killing the scientist who made the vibranium detector but also not to tell anyone that hes mad at them for trying to find vibranium(???) which is a pretty dumb plan because among other things why does he think it just one scientist thats not how science works

oh wait except it does because apparently ironheart is in this movie (lol that i didnt get this through pop culture osmosis when the spinoff potential in context is so blatant) and instead of just telling namor hey we found the scientist and shes just a college student who didnt know the vibranium detector was going to be used to look for vibranium (yes this sounds stupid but everyone accepts this explanation uncritically when ironheart says it) also were giving her asylum because the cia is trying to kidnap her wakanda decides that this namor guy is just an rear end in a top hat and they dont owe him any explanation resulting in an entirely unnecessary escalation that kills a fuckton of people on both sides

its honestly a pretty pitch perfect description of our cultural era badass girlbosses doing manly things not like in a good way but straight up a toxically masculine way final verdict not socialist

i dunno, i don't really know any showrunner names or background at all. but still, you think they'd have an overall plot-line and stuff outlined before diving into a ~cerebral thinking-man thriller~ (lol). bad news if not

the an example of a really loving stupid plot-line they can take it is Lumon is a scientology-like cult thats severing people's brains and having them figure out how to compartmentalize and erase memories so they resurrect the Kier Eagan guy by sticking his psyche into everyone's body las plagas style, and something-something about profits: it's evil at face-value.. Or an even stupider way is trying to develop methods to forcefully severe people so they can take them over Westworld-style and control the world. ugh i hope not lol. a more interesting way, if there was actual talent involved to make not suck, would be lumon is actually good or half-good in that it's a sophisticated therapy for people and not actually evil like everyone thinks they are

That seems like it would be a stupid plot tbh

no.

one of the film industry nerds itt can correct me, but for a lot of motion picture's history, it was targeted to a "mature audience" (not necessarily violence/sex, but rather the intended and expected audience were adults and motion pictures took the place of things like plays/concerts/shows) and that was the bread & butter of hollywood was generally making movies that were like were like more narrative-story-character based tales like hitchcock or westerns. starting around the 80s(?), attention spans started getting somewhat shorter, or rather, no longer being as satisfied with slow, boring, movies and needed constant whizz-bang-flash-kazaam entertainment and this coincidenced with adults as an revenue base declining as they noticed movies became more family events rather than a date thing or night out while kids stay home with a babysitter.

And why not? with declining rate of profit (marx was right), movies need to get more and more back for their cost. so why sell 1-2 tickets when you can sell 4-6 each time they go out? this changed the dynamic of what movies were being made to ones more targeting kids because that's where the big bucks was. then with consolidation of hollywood in the 90s-00s, the small/mid budget movies died out in favor of more bombastic kids/family movies

now that as a revenue base, people arent having kids, especially millennials, studios like A24 are coming in and thriving because they can make more cheaper adult-oriented movies to an audience who are majority child-free/dinky; HOWEVER, this is still a very small niche in the overall profits of hollywod.

edit: I should add, this dual material dialectics is actually working insanely in favor for Disney right now which is why cape poo poo slop is so popular. By that I mean the superhero movies both work when marketed towards kids and the ol' landed gentry upper-class family takes the fam out buying 5 tickets and popcorn and snacks, but superhero movies also are targeted to child-free millennial manchildren cashing in on their comic book nostalgia and just flashy enough to entertain them for a few hours.

Although stupidhero movies may die out, right now they're development and place in the cultural mileau is a uniquely wide profit-base for Disney/et al. that's partly why I don't think they'lll die out anytime soon. They get their cake and eat it too.
