I really wanted Tippman, but Bears were never in a position to draft him. I understand why they wouldn't. Last year they signed Lucas Patrick, who played six loving snaps all year. They also drafted Doug Kramer as a development project. With Whitehair having center experience, it is easy to see why they felt the position wasn't a priority.

Right tackle was their biggest need. They spent their first round pick on that.

Braxton Jones is clearly a guy they believe in this year, so left tackle is covered.

Assuming Patrick or Kramer can step up at center, they have Whitehair, Jenkins, and Nate Davis to cover the guard positions.

On top of all that, the Bears also drafted late round developmental guy last year Ja'Tyre Carter.

Whereas on the defensive line they had Dominique Robinson and Trevis Gibson.

Is it really that bad to trust your scouting that some guys will develop. Poles crushed it.

The line will probably need some time to gel but it should be much improved. Jones and Wright are young but should be able to hold their own at tackle and see development over the season. Jenkins looked good at guard and Nate Davis is a solid player. Whitehair or Patrick should be able to hold down the fort at Center. I don't think Borom is a starter by any means but he's not a bad backup tackle to have. I'd still like to see them grab an experience interior lineman after cuts.

It's not a good line by any means, but it has a chance to be average with potential to be good/great in a couple years if the young talent develops.

I know people wanted offensive lineman, but there just weren't many projected starters on day 2 and 3 at the position. Meanwhile there were a lot of DT and CB who projected to be NFL starters. Poles took best available and I think that's the right move. It'll be up to the coaching staff to develop them now.

Does that factor in DJ Moore? I mean it was either him or a 2025 1st which I'm guessing has some high value.

Going to average will be a significant improvement. As you get more depth, it is easier to target places to improve your roster.

lmao they would be incredibly dumb to not pick up his 5th year option.

Even if he sucks, you still have an albeit expensive backup who knows your system, for when you draft a rookie.

If he is mediocre, then you get into the Daniel Jones situation.

He's not even going to get the higher tiers of the 5th year option as he won't hit the snap counts for playtime(unless he makes the pro bowl this year, in which case you'd probably be more than happy to pay it).

His salary number is gonna be like ~19-20 million, unless the recent QB contracts gently caress with the money, which it might.

Especially considering if he is mid-okay, and then you decide you have to franchise him to have him prove it one more year before the long contract you jump from 20 million a year to like ~33 million a year.
