Consistently Tedious!
Slight causes for optimism in Minnesota:

They're working to lock down Naz Reid Naz Reid and Chris Finch recognizes one of the season's biggest offensive issues:

quote:

The coach took some ownership for the team’s struggles this season as well. Finch prefers to have an offense the players flow into, where they read the defense, react to what they see in front of them and use their intellect and synergy to attack weaknesses as they unfold. He does not like to call a lot of plays, believing it can stifle the creativity and ingenuity that makes teams most difficult to guard. But this Wolves team seemed to crave more structure

This summer, Finch said he would take a long look at his offense and how best to tailor it to maximize Towns and Gobert while also giving Edwards the freedom to attack like he did in Games 3-5 against Denver.

“It’s going to take a lot more attention to detail and spacing, perhaps a little more structure,” Finch said. “We’re going to have to be able to shift between directing the ball to different guys. I think maybe some more play calls from me."

This was a team with a 114 ORTG (16th) and 3ish NET (10th) in the first half, vs a 112 ORTG (25th) and -2ish NET (26th) in the second and the lack of structure to fall back on was a clear issue when things started to gum up late.

Ant also needs to start adding the pick and roll game to his bag - players like Trae, Dame, Ja, Demar, and Donovan finished on it 9-12 times a game (36-47% of their possessions). For Ant, it was barely over a quarter. He had 27 total assists to Rudy this year (for context, that's 2 more than to Nowell and 3 fewer than to Towns despite the latter missing almost 4 months). Luckily, he's 21 and Jaden's 22 so neither is anywhere near their prime and both can continue to develop those necessary skills.

Indeed, welcome to the Kings. One of the funnest seasons in a long time. This is good experience, and I think they can build on it next year.

Sounds like a good deal, because Marky Mark's House is totally the most beloved landmark. Yes.

But seriously Horford is too important for the vibes as the Celtics' dad.

Someone said we thought sabonis was a poor man's jokic but he's really a poor man's looney. His flaws were exposed. He did well in the reg season (yes I watched games) but lordy was he a disaster in round 1. The kings were billed as having 2 stars but maybe they only have 1.

His chief flaw of "He loses focus halfway through a game when he's playing with a hosed up hand, cheek, eye, and chest".

Dude's painkillers wore off. He was the only reason the King's were in that game to begin with and had a fantastic first half.

I legitimately can't tell you who the team was playing at PF for most of the second half, because they did nothing. So I would start looking there, maybe, for help.

I need to see if there were Pels exit interviews. I haven't been following the team online for a couple months now; just watching the games. Just got around to reading this article and found a couple somewhat interesting bits: https://theathletic.com/4407925/2023/04/13/pelicans-loss-thunder-nba-playoffs/

quote:

[...]

All in all, the Pelicans’ Big 3 of Zion, Ingram and McCollum only played 10 games together this season. The 172 minutes the Big 3 shared on the court was barely more than the 167 minutes Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and Devin Booker have played together in Phoenix this season.

[...]

McCollum admitted Wednesday night that he’s played with a thumb injury for at least three months that will require surgery next week. He also said after the game that he’s been dealing with a shoulder injury the past few games that may require surgery once it gets examined.

[...]

There’s an unwavering belief among the prominent voices in the locker room that Zion’s presence is key to the Pelicans winning a title. There’s no effort among players to speed up his exit and make Ingram the unquestioned leadership figure. If anything, the players see this team as one that’s ready to compete for a Western Conference title if Williamson can play.

Oh no, our All NBA center led the league in double doubles and is only making $19.4 million next year we’re so screwed. Have fun paying Jordan Poole $30 mil lol

Amazing season from the Kings. Blew away everybody’s expectations. Unanimous coach of the year. First ever clutch player of the year. Two all stars and all nba players. The record holder for most 3s made by a rookie. A legitimate 6moty contender. Draft picks and cap space going forward. Fantastic vibes and energy.

Sometimes you run up against a top 10 player of all time playing the best game 7 of all time. It happens.

Has anyone even intimated that Sabonis is bad/on a bad contract? You're punching a strawman.

Kings were fun all season, was a shame they had to face the Dubs 1st round as opposed to the Conference Finals.

"Monk is Lou Williams 2.0" was the most obvious draft take everyone had before the draft and maybe the one that I've seen come most true of pre-draft takes that were that universal. Although the thing I will say about Monk is he's defending slightly better than Monk was at this age.
