I posted in the thread for a bit because it was funny to laugh at the fail game and also I had no idea about the past insanity. Then someone showed up asking for information about Chris Roberts' wifes' kids from a previous marriage or whatever. Even if people rightfully called him a freak a thread that attracts that kind of people is hosed up and should be destroyed (and the posters put into the blender from that one Treehouse of Horror episode)

the whole issue with star citizen is that the devs are barely doing anything or adding content so past a few months there's very little to talk about but the thread generated its own 'culture' and people wanted to entertain their friends by generating new content to post about so they just started digging into weirder and weirder poo poo

star citizen had the potential to be a really good game imo but its this far into development and is still full of bugs like clipping through a planet and exploding your ship (which you then have to pay insurance for) when you try and warp from the wrong station

The Book Barn thread for the book series decided to lean into this because this was 2008 and rape jokes were super edgy and funny. The mod at the time did nothing about this and the thread was able to egg each other on until someone wrote and published "Game of Bones, by T.B. Thread" as a parody of the series. Eventually the HBO series actually came out, invasions between the book series and HBO series were had, and the mods stepped in to stop the invasions but not actually police the thread. The threads shambled on, occasionally being recreated, until people stopped giving a poo poo and mods actually started slightly paying attention to the thread.
