Unlike crypto bullshit, I’d argue some of the AI advancements can actually address real problems, so are thus at least useful. I think the problem is that there’s a perception they’re a magic wand, but really, they’re like a handheld power tool - quick, convenient, easy to use, but still requiring an operator that knows how to use them, and when not to use them, to make anything worthwhile. Maybe that will change, but in the meantime, I’m sure there’s going to be tons of money wasted on poo poo like “have an AI do your taxes because we lobby aggressively against just having the government do them for you so we can charge you ”

I think it's a very different kind of bullshit (though a lot of the same people are peddling it). Even the simplest NFT stuff quickly got too complicated and stupid for the average person to follow (and so they felt like they were missing something) while a big part of the appeal of AI is that it's genuinely easy for anybody to pick up. AI is good (or good enough) at some things that seem hard so there's a natural tendency to assume it'll be good at other tricky things.

Edgar Allen Ho posted:Los Angeles and its many hangers on is the worst city I’ve heard LA described as a bunch of suburbs they decided to call a city and I pretty much agree with it. There’s no city “feel” to LA and it’s just so spread out. New York is a city, LA is Advanced Suburbia. Edit: I do like LA though. It has a lot of neat things, just didn’t feel like a “city” to me.

LA has a really great feel to me in the outskirts, the hills and deserts and the almost mediterranean feel of the flora. I don't like the overpriced houses or their denizens but the streets can be very seductive when you're in the right state of mind. Listening to some RHCP or Sublime or something, maybe Lana Del Rey.

Micheal Mann makes LA look alluring, Refn too. It's really not though, there's maybe a dozen cool spots in a city that's approximately the size of the Korean Penninsula. It's nothing but endless suburbs and roads leading to roads. There's a reason two LAnians when left alone will surely degrade into conversation on traffic given enough time for interlocution. You know when you're cruising through the middle states and you hit the part of the country where every twenty minutes you're driving through a town with the highway as its main road and absolutely no reason to pull off unless you need to piss or get gas. Imagine that but forever, that is LA

Just a bunch of old people reading off of cards. If they took it seriously it'd at least be a little entertaining.

Sure, but his personality is not why he is crowned. Is Britain ready for such a social change? Are they ready for an independent Scotland? Free unified Ireland? Getting on their knees to beg admission back into the EU? You can keep your funny hats and sticks, just let Scotland and Ireland piss on you and join the rest of the EU. doverhog has a new favorite as of 01:12 on May 7, 2023 |

Charles III sincerely cares about art, culture, the environment and food. All of these are in desperate need of a staunch advocate in the PR space. Capital is clearly aligned against each. Capital wants art to be cheap and disposable, culture to be universal and shallow, the environment to be as lovely as possible and for food to be homogenized swill manufactured as cheaply as possible while being sold with extremely high margins. Because of that there have been decades long propaganda campaigns against him. He's a lot like Hillary Clinton in that regard. Sure, he sucks. But most people hate him for the wrong reasons. The people whose values align with his on the part where most people hate him, hate him for other (much better) reasons leaving him with no natural allies.

He as a person is irrelevant. Maybe there could be another hypothetical King who could bring support back to the Monarchy, but he is not that. If he wanted to start, he could make a Royal decree where he endorses Scottish independence, and the reunification of Ireland. But such a thought is impossible to him, and to anyone that supports him, or the Monarchy as a concept. So he and his suckers, suck.
