Hot Shots Part Deux is what you get if you take the Rambo scene from UHF and turn it into a movie.

The actual functioning of the mil industrial complex is beyond satire now. Also the comedy would give people some perspective to complain about, so perhaps not the hottest selling item.

You will get another transformer movie.

No, because mirth and laughter are for children and we’re all definitely grown-ups - not maladjusted manbabies cargo-culting the trappings of adulthood - who only watch movies that take themselves very seriously and have explosions and swears and boobs.

It's incredible how they made like eight of those loving things, and managed maybe three decent jokes across all of them. This one does usually get a chuckle out of me, though:

But yeah, they certainly did their part in killing the parody genre dead.

The last modern comedies that I've liked and probably still hold up are Superbad and Super Troopers, though I haven't seen the sequel.

Embarrassment comedies like The Office make me cringe like hell.

I liked the first 3 Scary Movie films. 3 & 4 even had a Zucker brother direct it!

My theory is that that type of comedy suffered from the internet happening, where pop culture started moving faster than a medium that takes time to produce like movies could keep up with. Parodies of something that's well out of the zeitgeist feels lame and has difficulty competing against stuff like absurdist humor that is prevalent on the internet.

On a similar note, parody music like "Weird" Al Yankovic is hard to make now as pop music is so fragmented & fast-moving. Its been 9 years since Mandatory Fun

It's weird because 2 is pretty silly but it's so loving quotable.

"I do find though if I tickle my rear end in a top hat just before I UNLEASH the DOG OF WAR..."
"I'ma poo poo on these walls, Ray!"
"Use my strong hand!"
"My germs!"
"This is just BONES!"

It was weirdly one of the first movies I watched with my wife when we started dating and we still say these stupid lines.

Yes.
The newest truly funny comedy movie I remember seeing was the Get Smart remake with Steve Carell.

Oddly enough, my favourite comedy ever was directed by Steven Spielberg of all people.

what the gently caress are you talking about, the dominating force of the movie industry for the last 15 years have been sexless, sterile superhero movies that are desperate to remind you every 3 minutes not to take anything seriously with awful quippy dialogue

Scary Movie 1 is unwatchable but somehow Scary Movie 2 is worse. 3 is not great but I will admit there was one bit in that movie that made me laugh out loud in the theater, which was where... a woman is researching something on a computer, and there comes the sound of a horn or something which, in a cinematic fashion is used as a transition to the next shot, but because the sound happens in the previous shot, it scares the woman. I'm sure I'm not even describing it right and maybe it's not even from this movie...

I watched it with my sister over Christmas and since she's not steeped in Weird Al humor she didn't "get" the movie.

Having to explain that Weird Al did not date Madonna or meet Pablo Escobar was... something.
