Timothy Burke is always the first person to tweet out any video of a sports moment or anything. If I had to guess, he has a ton of equipment in his home that are used to rip video from cable/satellite feeds (he’s complained in the past about streaming platforms ruining his ability to quickly rip and upload clips) and the FBI is investigating him for video piracy or whatever the gently caress. At least I hope it’s that and not something worse.

In the Te'o doc you get a glimpse of his setup and it's pretty wild but it probably is a political move.

I'm gonna hope it's not what it could be for the sake of victims, but a pre-dawn raid + all of his devices taken by FBI usually points down a dark road that isn't white-collar copyright crime.

They do raid satellite pirates but a full guns-drawn pre-dawn raid points to, uh, something that might be worse than pirating HBO. I wasn’t able to find an article about the FBI raiding satellite pirates since 2016 and the only one before that was that early-2000s DirecTV decoder cloning ring.

Giovanni Fucarino — Gio to his friends — had become a political fixture in recent years and served on the board of Ybor City’s Italian Club. He was a host at Castor’s reelection kickoff and on the host committee for a Hurtak campaign event.

So locals were stunned at the news of his arrest in March: Fucarino — actually John Robert Ring Jr. — was charged with failing to register as a sex offender. According to records, he served three years in prison after he asked a 17-year-old girl for pornographic photos and sex and was nabbed in a sting.

Then came the political aftershock: The Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office got a judge to seal the search warrant in the case because “potential evidence suggesting public corruption within the City of Tampa was located.”

The article is a political blotter, including news of a cyber attack on a County Election office that serves Tampa, so who knows.

damn i'm really in this bitch

if it were Something instead of Nothing, some detail would have already leaked because the police can't pick up a piece of garbage off the street without leaking it to a major media outlet

habeasdorkus

Royalty is a continuous shitposting motion.
The FBI tends to be much more tight lipped about investigations than state/local police, I don't think we can judge much by nothing having come out yet. With some exceptions, obviously, but Burke isn't Hillary Clinton and this isn't the SDNY FBI office right before a presidential election.

It's just a wait and see thing. I'm really hoping it's not CSAM, that would be deeply depressing. Generally speaking it's a lot harder to get the US Attorney's office and FBI to raid a local political opponent than getting your DA and police force to do it - they're parallel systems and the people who have influence in the local community and government just don't have the same pull in federal law enforcement. Not to say it's impossible, just that it's less likely than if this was local cops doing it.

Yeah I think the question is whether anybody in the Tampa insider scene is really capable of pulling favors with the FBI over piddly city council crap.
