Wasn't it an extremely lovely fan hub PCB (voltage traces running underneath screw heads) that was a fire hazard on those NZXT cases?

Nah, that was the PCIE riser. Even more voltage going through the exposed traces!

Probably for the people who want to keep all the fan cables organized and out of sight. Though that diagram reads like audiophile woo poo poo, why does a PWM signal need signal quality improvements if its traveling like 2 feet at most.

I think it was fractal that actually had the fan hub issue, but they dealt with it well, unlike NZXT.

If you have more than four fans and don’t want to use a mess of splitters, or if you want to reduce the amount of cable routing you have to do. Pretty basic stuff.

I think Fractal also found the issue before most of the Torrent pre-orders had been sent out too.

Yeah and they were very proactive about tracking down and replacing problem units. Things that get GN on your side.

Also re noctua oh yeah they are a lot more expensive than I thought, I thought they were like 20bux more than comparables but wayyy more.

are the fans that daisy chain together uncool or something? thats what my case came with, its two sets of 3 fans each, hanging off a single mobo fan header and it seems ok to me.

Each motherboard header has a maximum current it can supply (the manual should hopefully tell you, usually it's 1A, fancier boards might be 2A). Too many fans can overload that limit and either run too slowly or damage the board. Usually 2-3 you can get away with fine, but there's definitely a limit. The fans should also hopefully tell you their current load, and you can just sum them to see if it fits in the motherboard's limit.

Headers can be placed in some pretty wacky spots that don’t line up with the case’s cable routing holes, too.

it's something they needed in the lab and figured they'd scale up the product since r&d was 90% done for a consumer version anyway

This makes sense thanks. I have 3 140mm fans and they prominently say 0.30amp on the back side, which brings it up to a 0.9 amp draw on the fan header which is probably close to the 1amp limit.

which is good since the most common config seems to be two or three fans.

Also explains why the included cables that came with the case made it impossible to daisy chain more than 3 fans together.

I normally can't really stand Gamers Nexus videos. They are so incredibly dry, well sourced and tested, as I've used case reviews he's done to rule out a couple of cases, but just no "presence". This one, I think his excitement over figuring it out, and seeing the results of cooking CPU's, plus the carnage they captured with all the video, is what makes this video quite good. It results in this one is enjoyable to actually watch.

I'm going to get flamed for discussing grooming amongst goons, but Steve never had a real job. His business started in his mom's basement. I'm pretty sure he'd consider a shirt with buttons on it to be selling out.

No, GN didn’t start in his mom’s basement. If you look really, really far back they had their own testing lab (it looked like a science classroom in a school). What happened was that GN needed to move, and at the same time there was some issue that meant his mom couldn’t pay for the house, so Steve bit the bullet and moved GN into the basement (knowing it wasn’t a good space for GN) so that GN could pay the mortgage. (This was discussed back in the moving vlogs when they left that basement.)

He worked at Dell and then I believe a contract test house until running GN full time in 2015 according to his LinkedIn.
