I have a spotify playlist that's like 12 hours long which fulfills most of my needs. I've curated it over the course of like two years.

when there's a steam sale, you can buy the soundtracks for baldur's gate, baldur's gate 2, icewind dale, and neverwinter nights pretty cheap, and those should be useful for a lot of situations (they're just mp3 files so you can play them yourself however you want). not sure if planescape torment or icewind dale 2's soundtrack is available similarly, neverwinter nights 2's soundtrack is available if you buy the actual game on gog.

Yes, I thought it was a good summer action flick and would recommend it to anyone who wants to watch one, or D&D players. There's nothing to be upset at except for deep FR lore nerds like myself.

I will say as a shallow FR lore nerd that I enjoyed the film but afterward I felt kind of tricked almost because the phrase “the harpers faction” right at the start of the film instantly dropped my expectations through the loving floor, meaning that most other discrepancies fell into the category of “well, it’s nowhere near as bad as saying ‘the harpers faction’, so I’ll give it a pass”.

Anyway, Deep FR lore nerds I have a question, (Descent into Avernus spoilers) Elturel is stuck in Avernus and currently divided between two factions which have mostly pushed the fiends out of the city: Grand Marshal Ravengard of Baldur’s Gate controls the western half of the city while High Rider Klav Ikaia, vampiric former ruler of the city (before he was deposed using the Companion) is in firm control of the east. The goal of the campaign is to return Elturel to Faerun.

If, hypothetically, a vampire were to openly become the ruler of a city in Faerun, and believed himself to be the legitimate and lawful ruler, what might religious life in that city look like? Could such a creature find, say, priests of Helm who would swear loyalty to Elturel, so long as the High Rider is protecting and watching over their subjects? I’m thinking of that thing where like the King of Cormyr or someone was sick and the priest of Myrkul or whoever was like “I’ll pray for him cause he’s my king too”, only in reverse.

Also is Siamorphe canonically dead or just not mentioned in current 5e cause I’m imagining the vampire sending knights out to find Siamorphe’s Grail to cement his rule as divine right/become the next Siamorphe himself.

Idk if there's a thread. Personally I like Dungeondraft and Dungeonscrawl for maps. Dungeondraft maps can look really nice but you're gonna have to go out and find assets for it to get the most out of it, Dungeonscrawl is just really fast to throw things together + has importers for the best two procgen dungeon generators if you need something immediately.

For VTTs most people are going to say Foundry but Owlbear 2.0 is, incredibly good imo.

Thanks. Up until now I've always done traditional mapping, drawing it out on big wet-erase grids and using minis, but I'd like to try some way to digitally map and run battles on a local table so I can start them much more quickly without drawing anything, and maybe so things like HP are easier to track. I was thinking of putting up a monitor in the middle of the table for the players to look at.

It's basically "Johnathan" so you can almost hear the players ask "what's this guy's name" and the DM respond "It's...ummm...It's Jon--uh--Jarn...athan? Yeah, Jarnathan."

I can totally see the DM making strength checks for Jarnathan and, after a couple of astounding rolls in the first 2-3 rounds, a very low roll makes them violently crash .

One thing I thought was interesting was the amount of times the heroes fail, but keep going. It seems to go along with the 'fail forwards' angle Crawford and Perkins have been hinting at, both in terms of the way Crawford has talked about the suggested inspiration-on-a-fail mechanic and in previous interviews with Perkins.

Makes me wonder how much of the writing process was actually influenced by Wizards staff saying "this is how we want the game to be represented" or "this is a thing in tabletop communities." I'm sure the writers did a quick scan of TV tropes and tabletop youtube to get some meme moments like the mimic and the heroes from the 80s cartoon; but then there's also stuff like Jarnathan and the bridge which seem more from an observation of D&D going wrong.

Stuff like Wild Magic they could have gotten from just getting some production assistants to skim-read the source material and come back with a list of things that sound interesting, but there's just the odd thing here and there which does seem to have been thrown in by someone who knows D&D.

YggdrasilTM

The creator have deliberately tried to bring as much as they could of the game rules in the movie. They freaking paid attention to verbal, somatic and material component of the spells. They explicitly said that they ignored rules only when they worked against the movie story (or the coolness of the action scenes).

Making some characters now, and I don't seem to understand saving throws.

Like, you get some checkmarks in the ones you're proficient in, which means you get your lvl proficiency bonus when rolling it. But, in the case of other things like attacking, you get the modifiers both for your attributes and your proficiency.

I guess what I'm asking is, if you're working out your dexterity saving throw modifier, do you then apply both the proficiency modifier (if you are indeed proficient) and then also your dexterity ability score modifier?

Yeah, your base save modifiers are just the ability mods, and then you add proficiency if you're proficient in it, that's also true for all your skills. Feels like the stock 5e sheets make this seem way more intricate than it is, because you end up just writing the same numbers in about two dozen times, with a few occasional exceptions.

Per Out of the Abyss the Wizards serving Themberchaud will attempt to kill them in service to the demon lords. If the party does not help this sect, the attempt fails and Themberchaud becomes so enraged that they destroy Gracklstugh in order to escape. Either way, Orcus has their way with the remains of the populace.

Whether that is canon or not is up for debate, but it is an option in an official module. I don't know when the movie takes place in the overall timeline but it could make sense temporally.

Canon is weird in 5E, but since Out of the Abyss ties in with the Drizzt novels, I'd consider it canon if that sorta thing matters to you.

Depends on the setting/how fancy the casino is. Something like a Vegas Casino, I'd expect the house to have some kind of measure to prevent or detect and punish that kind of magic just like other forms of cheating. A small or backwater place might miss it, but if the locals found out there'd be a ruckus.

I wouldn't ban it from happening, just introduce consequences. Banning it as a GM feels like kneecapping the entire concept of being a divination wizard.

edit: what happens if another divination wizard is also using magic to predict bets? Another player or even the dealer/the House?

There is so nods, but Out of the Abyss and the Drizzt novels don't cover the exact same events. The finale of Out of the Abyss explicitly does not happen in the novels.
