I unironically love us millennial-types getting old because I'm real curious to see how it changes the vibes from the winga-dinga boomer 50s-60s sodashop stuff that seems to have been how things have been for so, so long.

To be clear, I just turned 39 and am not dogging on the olds since I am right there with them:

That they're throwing so much battery at enormous vehicles is such a waste of juice considering very few ever get used to their limits anyway.

Americans are convinced they need a giant SUV to haul their one butt, and they need to do it 300 miles at a time, no matter what. Source: American.

I put stereos in ultra-base model Metros for a rental company, and that is very much not a Metro. It is at least a rebadged Suzuki, like the Metro was (Swift).

Nah, that's way too methodical/decently done to be mental illness. More of a pseudo-military theme, I think.

On the other hand, I'm concerned how much of the original unibody is left or if any reinforcement was done to compensate for the apparent lack of the original roof behind the B-pillar. :ohdear:

No, it can't haul a moose out of the back country, ya got me there. But look, you just fixed the door latch with a butter knife and a spring from Ace Hardware.

My wife had one for a couple years right before we started our dealership, only a 2WD version though for smooth-flat-pavement Florida. Exceptionally easy to work on and just a good performing car. Rad as gently caress look too.

Replaced with a 1989 Suzuki Jimny from Japan and while it looks fantastic they are actually kind of lovely vehicles to use use, but great to be seen in. There are no 2WD Jimnys that I am aware of.

Further replaced with a 1994 Daihatsu Mira RV4, a turbo keicar AWD hatchback. If you know what a VW Golf Country is, it's a 660 cc version of that but better built.

Now we are deciding if we keep our Prado or the Caldina instead as we like them both but it WOULD be silly to have two ~fun~ cars like this. Both are turbo 4cyl AWD/4WD manual transmission Toyotas but their execution is a bit different from each other :v:

IN CONCLUSION Geo Trackers are fantastic and we are well beyond the point of that even being debatable, it is now an understood truth. :colbert: :colbert: :colbert:

When I was living in Kenya, besides the Land Cruisers and Defenders, one of the most common vehicles was the Maruti Gypsy Maruti being the Indian brand for Suzuki.

They were great off-road. Good 4WD and light enough that they were hard to get stuck enough that they couldn’t be dislodged with only a couple of people pushing. Simple and cheap to fix. Really lovely on the highway.

The ads claimed they could seat 8 people, which is an insane claim unless they’re hauling a load of 10 year old kids. It’s the chassis of an older Jimny, so it’s not a big car.

Looks like they started production in '88 so they qualify for import

I couldn't find an "awesome public transport poo poo" thread, so in here it goes. Yesterday, I was wooing a lady by telling her about how hosed Up public transport is in my city. I started digging up photos from way back and lo and behold:

we used to have cab-and-trailer style buses for a fair chunk of the late forties until the late fifties.

These are already amazing on their own, because Big Truck™, but then: I stumbled across a caption that made me :eyepop:

While artist Eric Staller's light drawings are beautiful in their own right, keep in mind that they were created in New York City in the 1970s using only a Nikon 35mm film camera, July 4th streamers, and Christmas lights, and you can't help but unless blown away. By day, Staller strolled through New York, studying the places he felt would "articulate the particular choreography or architecture of light" he wanted to express. At night, he carefully positioned his camera on a tripod and, with the lens open for several minutes, deliberately moved through urban spaces; outlining cars, streets and stairways and even forming magical looking tunnels brought to life through his imagination.

Light Drawings, 1976-1980 have been exhibited worldwide and received much attention from art galleries and publications. As he tells us, "Even the most technical people in the photography world were baffled as to how these photos were made."

Mexican Plates. Knew it.
That means I'll likely see one up here in DFW eventually. I've already seen a number of weird-to-the-US things up from Mexico, like the little MB A-class (not the current A-class - the original pretty-much-a-Smart-car one.)

That little RAM barely even has a bed.

edit:
eh, about 1M on the Crew Cab. Not that bad, and they sell a single-cab version with a bed a tad over 6'. The bed is fairly deep due to FWD. Actually a Fiat Strada, of course, and smaller than a BMW 2-series, according to articles.
