Cry Havoc and let slip the Hogs of War
Seeing how Woolie and Reggie reacted to the end of the Leviathan DLC, they not going to like the Catalyst reveal. Hope he talks about the DLC on the podcast next week

And now that Darkest Dungeon 2 is coming out, I hope Woolie streams it as well. I liked the short one he did a year and a half ago

Final Fantasy IX has really been dragging. I'd forgotten all about Garnet and Steiner going off on their own. I know I liked it a lot at the time, but I'm starting to thing that good will is for the back half of the game.

I also like how that turn based mod apparently did nothing but gently caress various combat systems in exchange for being able to idle on the main battle menu instead of just the sub menus where you actually make tactical decisions, because watching the combat in the last stream without it I saw no meaningful speed difference. FFIX animations are so belaboured that by the time one ends another character's turn queues up anyway

What why is he playing with a loving turn based mod? FF9 is already one of hte most forgiving and slowest ATB games

It shouldn't be surprising to hear about a new mind goblin of Pat or Woolie by now. It should be a head shake at best.

Fun to talk about them though. Why is there a PowerPoint presentation between every two swings in Hi-Fi Rush?

I know Pat and Woolie mostly off the podcast with short clips on youtube of the more infamous escapades (Paige and Baba is You) so Woolie's pixel hunt for every power up, even the ones blatently beind "come back here later" doors for Hi Fi Rush was my first encounter with Woolie's goblins.

I like hearing about these events secondhand because I'm hoping to see Hi-Fi Rush on PS4 or PS5 in a year or two so I haven't looked at too much gameplay of it.

To be fair, that's probably more his QA Brain (aka Professional Mind Goblins) wanting to scrape everything to be sure

Mass Effect has been a masterclass for goblins, entire episodes of Woolie and Reggie scouring every pixel of every map for useless crap or talking to every single person on the Normandy after every single side mission, even long after dialogue trees have been exhausted.

The funny thing is that they’ll do a mission and then talk to everyone on the citadel and then the Normandy and then read the codex and stop for the day. The next day, they start off talking to everyone on the Normandy and you just hear a bunch of “hey commander”

In yesterday’s session, they hit the casino. Brooks told them to mingle while she gets into position, so they mingled with every single available person and exhausted their dialogue before they even let Brooks into the vents. So at some points, they have to wait for the next goal so they mingle but no one is talking since they used up all of the dialogue.

The only time that mingle system worked well was in Samara's loyalty mission in ME2 because you were on a timer and you couldn't do every interaction in the bar before you'd lose your chance to draw out Morinth or you hosed up enough times that she gets bored and leaves.

To me gacha games means that I'm pulling for things that affect my gameplay, like characters and weapons. Lootboxes are usually cosmetics that don't affect my gameplay, like weapon skins or costumes.

You're right that in the end it's still dumb gambling that preys on FOMO, but I can see why some people make a distinction between the two

This is also where I sit on the issue, is that "Gacha Games" rely on the pulls to continue the gameplay while "Lootboxes" are incentives to keep playing. It's ultimately a dumb semantic argument and I don't blame anyone for considering them ultimately the same, but at least to my view it's a notable difference.

Okay, so FIFA, TF2 and Apex Legends are Gacha games but Overwatch, Midnight Suns and Counter Strike are just lootbox games. That makes sense.

Fortnite just has an annoying rotating shop so I don't know what to call that one and I'm not familiar with how League of Legends or Dota play to say one way or another where those two fall.

You buy card packs with players in them for fifa ultimate team (custom team mode). It's definitely a gacha for that game mode.

Apex Legends is a lootbox game. Everything in that is cosmetics.

TF2 meaning team fortress 2? i dont know how you could think thats a gacha game... unless theyve had some wild patches in the last 10 years but i havent heard about it

last i checked all the stuff from the lootboxes was cosmetic. i guess there were some alternate weapons but no money is required for them

TF2 as a multiplayer FPS is not a gacha game, TF2 as an idle/hat trading simulator game is gacha.

I could sort of see an argument in how weapons are behind drops (and crates? Idk) but it ain’t that.
