I'm a little bummed it means he's gonna slow down his youtube stuff but at the same time his last few Anime Abandon episodes have been full on essays that take months and months to complete. And I still watch Super Bunny Hop who uploads once a year nowadays so I can wait a bit longer for whatever video sage has cooking while while he does his main gig.

Dan has to be one of the best video essayists on Youtube. He’s able to present detailed and well-researched information in a way that’s accessible, and he manages to do it without sounding smug or condescending like he’s only interested in preaching to the choir. He adds jokes to prevent the material from getting too dry, but he never lets that stuff get out of control and turn into overlong obnoxious skits. The niche youtube videos are truly the best youtube videos. Thank you for this, I had never heard of the I Ching before. I feel like there were definitely points in my life where I could have used some straightforward, philosophical advice like that.

I seriously don't know how many multi-hour videos from randos this thread has recommended that I've turned off before the 10 minute mark because I just can't stand the presenter or their style, but Dan's stuff is some of the only videos I can watch all the way through, primarily for all the reasons outlined above. I have basically the inverse reaction, normally it's "Here's a video on a topic that interests me, aaaaaand the person doing it is insufferable, okay goodbye." but with Dan it's like "here's a Byzantine topic I do not give a poo poo about and does not effect my life in any real way... and the video is over now, wow."
