I think the trick with Florida is that you really have to live directly on the coast. It keeps the temps/humidity down a little with the ocean breeze. Of course, much of those areas will be underwater in not too long so there's really no winning there either (in addition to the turbo fascism, of course)

I'll always remember how Robert Moses tried to destroy Coney Island (getting rid of the beach entirely and turning it into a road and grassy esplanade) and send people to Jones Beach instead because he was such a dork that he liked the actual beach part part of beaches and not the trashy boardwalk amusements (the fun part)
