Avengers 1 is great! Classic but fresh feeling, just what I wanted.

I also enjoyed X-Men and FF this week. The Spider-Man stuff is just…baffling, but I’ll continue to simply read what seems cool and ignore what doesn’t.

One example of the comics following the MCU is the Guardians of the Galaxy. They've all had complete personality overhauls save Rocket and Groot and even they've had some of their edges sanded off. Nebula's had the 'grand' part of 'granddaughter of Thanos' knocked off and now she considers Gamora her sister. Mantis is completely unrecognizable from her initial appearances which probably irks Steve Englehart no end. Bendis took over their book right around when the movie dropped and that's also part of it because he just writes quippy characters, it's what he does, but they were all brought more in line with their movie versions.

Also this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Star-Lord didn't really have a personality before the movies that wasn't related to being just a generic sort of do-gooder. After Bendis left the book writers like Ewing did their own things with them - like giving Peter a MMF polycule - but the MCU's influence is certainly there.

Drax is the easiest character to do that with, given that going back thirty years he kept dying and being reborn, from a normal guy to a sort of serious but noble Martian Manhunter type to a big hulking child-like dummy to a smaller grim Wolverine type to etc.

I mean it’s more emotional torture porn. Which is basically all the main spider man book has any more.

Ironically the else world where Peter is taken over by Venom is less bleak than the real spider man comic

Honestly I couldn't give a rats rear end if Kamala was Inhuman or Mutant, I just have no faith at all that they won't use the opportunity to gently caress with her powerset. Her MCU powerset just feels like such a lame, watered-down version of something she's become iconic for and its one of the few things I really don't like about an otherwise solid adaptation.

The cynic in me says that Kamala's been a thorn in some executive's side for a while now, since there's really no way to ignore the fact that she has basically the same powers as Reed Richards and Marvel seems to be gearing up to push the Fantastic Four hype machine into overdrive.

Wonder if they will switch her powers back when the movie flops while Spidey and his Amazing Friends continues to be popular.

I just had it noted this is happening in AAPI Month, too. Extremely good timing, Marvel!

As far as ASM goes, I've mostly been enjoying it prior to the current storyline. The Tombstone story at the start was really good.

I hope it's all nervous speculation. If they want to make Kamala Secretly A Mutant All Along, fine, whatever, it's not like anybody is chomping at the bit for Inhuman content. But changing her powerset is really lovely, especially given how the reason they gave her the same energy blast powers as everybody else is so that the richest media empire on Earth can save a few bucks by directing their non-union, underpaid post-production crew to use the Energy Blast preset in Final Cut.

Jesus Wept, I didn't even think about that. The most popular Asian super hero probably in existence (at least in America, I'm sure there's a bunch of manga and anime characters more popular in Asia itself).

I'm trying to phrase this so it's understood its not in bad faith, but I'm missing how killing Kamala off is fridging, unless the idea is to motivate Parker somehow? It looks like she's dying while doing hero stuff? I think killing Kamala off is an rear end idea, but it makes me less nervous than killing MJ off, which would likely hew closer to the fridging trope (and doing that to Parker just feels cruel and muddies up the Gwen Stacy touchstone too).

Anyway, glad to hear an X-Men reset is coming. I found the Hickman stuff impenetrable. I go through phases where I burn out on superhero comics for a bit and it's usually during periods where they've deviated from the initial hook. I've been liking anti-prison ninja Daredevil, but at some point it's just loving Shadowland again.

I don't really buy that Fall of X is an actual reset, anymore than the recent Inferno was, or Inhumans v. X-Men was going to lead to mutants being replaced. Yeah, their marketing a possible loss for drama, but I just don't see the Krakoa era coming to a close just yet.

Then again, I wouldn't have expected them to kill off Ms. Marvel pointlessly in a Spider-Man comic while an anticipated movie co-starring her is about to come out, so what do I know? Still, I have more faith in the X-Office.

Smarter, has actual super-powers*, better hand-to-hand combatant, and most importantly isn't Frank Castle.

Eh, I think the death is dumb but Zeb Wells is a writer on The Marvels, and this seems to have been his idea, so I think he and Marvel do have a plan for her (which is probably MCU synergy and X-Men related) and want to get her back in the spotlight. Wells really could have done a better job of using her in the Spider-Man run though if this was his goal.

Also yeah, you don't really want Frank Castle on your team of superheroes who are trying to appeal to the public.

yes, as stated in the issue he re-enacted jla tower of babel by making plans on how to kill everyone, and then went a step further and gave those plans to his ultimately less than loyal sleeper agents. he's persona non grata in wakanda for that and various other paranoid fuckups, too.

That makes sense. But they did let Batman back into the Justice League after Tower of Babel.

In the Sam Wilson Cap book, he snuck into Wakanda to track down a terrorist threat. Instead he and T'Challa fight, and at the end the Wakandan government stops taking US refugees, and deports the people that were there. Sam doesn't care for T'Challa any more. Both Cap books have been very good since they launched.
