Now with brine shrimp!
I've been building and painting in-universe companies using the CGL plastic miniatures and planning the forces by poring over the MUL and Xotl's availability tables. I enjoy that kind of nonsense goody bookkeeping when planning out a canon force, but I get that it isn't for everyone.

Then for actually playing, we pick a year (usually 3050/3052) and a BV and I pick from one of my forces accordingly.

I played the intro scenarios for Alpha Strike again with another friend who bought the starter box and wanted a quick demo. I hadn't played it in a few months, but it was such a joy to put it back on the table. What an absolutely slick set of rules.

My buddy played CBT back in the 90s, but he like me doesn't have infinite hours to play a game and was pleasantly surprised by just how fast AS is. He was sold completely when his Pouncer shot at my Atlas, rolled double 6s to hit and then double 6s on the crit table. I had previously crippled his Masakari, but only managed to crit the legs, so it was at full firing capacity as it backed off four inches per turn and shredded my remaining mechs.

Also gently caress the Fire Moth. Annoying little bastard.

I'll have to check the starter booklet when I get home, but it's whichever one is listed in the second introductory scenario.

The AS card in the box is the C (2x ER PPC, 2x LP Laser, Flamer) and the T (2x Plasma Rifles, 2x ER PPC, RL 10)

e. The second scenario uses the T configuration

Agreed, I taught a buddy who had only played clix before and he really liked it, saying he felt it was even faster but less dumbed-down than clix was. He appreciated the back and forth movement and simultaneous firing the most.

Can I modify armor values on a mech with printing out lists?

Wanted to up the Marauders side torso armor slightly.

You can build custom versions of the Marauder in Solaris Skunk Werks or whatever, if that's what you're asking.

Using MegaMekLab, it doesn't look like its custom though. Do I just clarify with my opponent that my Marauder 3M has 3 more points of left and right torso armor?

Even moving points around is customising a mech. The program won't change the designation unless you do, but it's still customised.

Even slight customizations count as custom units. However, go ahead and do it as long as you know your opponent is willing to allow it. Go ahead and just modify the original sheet too, since it would be trivial for such a modification. (But learning how to use designer programs is useful in case you want to do more than that later)

You'd be a moron company post-2020 if you charged shipping more than 2-3 months in advance before you're going to pay said shipping. Several game companies went bancrupt or close to it doing just that.

Not writing what mechs goes into which lance box has no excuse though.

I am locked in. After my initial grousing about the value for the pledge dollars, I'm pretty happy with how much robot I'm getting for a grant and a franklin after all the stretch goals and stuff.

1 Salvage Boxes Mercenaries (Visigoth Aerospace Fighter)
1 Mercenaries Forcepack: Inner Sphere Recon Lance
1 Mercenaries Forcepack: Inner Sphere Pursuit Lance
1 Mercenaries Forcepack: Battlefield Support Recon & Hunter Lances
1 Mercenaries Forcepack: Inner Sphere Heavy Recon Lance
1 Officer's SWAG Challenge Coin Star League
1 Mercenaries Box Set Exclusive
7 Salvage Boxes Mercenaries (BattleMechs)
1 100mm Timberwolf (per backer)
1 Officer's SWAG Dice Star League
1 Laser-effect "Chevron" Dice General Issue 16mm
1 Supersized Poster Set

I didn't look too much at add ons-- I am stoked for new map sheets but figure I already threw a fair bit at this and can pick those up retail.

I didn't back the clan invasion one so being able to get a load of random clan salvage box mechs alongside all the force packs is pretty nice. Will get a blood asp because it looks cool as heck and maybe one of the visigoth fighters although I don't think I'll ever use VTOL/aerospace rules ever.

The black thorns dice seem pretty nice though something colourful would be fun.Rreading up on them and find they fell victim to straight up being forgotten about was funny

I went heavy on vehicles since they will be so much more expensive to buy after the kickstarter compared to lance packs. Avoided the objectives lance since they never bumped it up to 2 of each vehicle, which means it should be cheaper.

Two of the following;

Battlefield Support Assault & Cavalry Lances
Battlefield Support Battle & Fire Lances
Battlefield Support Heavy Battle & Sweep Lances
Battlefield Support Recon & Hunter Lances

Got both new legendary boxes and both clan stars as well. And the recon lance just for the firestarter.

Got two Blood Asps and a bunch of mercenary salvage boxes for trade stuff, I really want a Jagermech, so hopefully the trade fodder will be good for it.

Alright, all locked in. I got all the available force packs, plus an extra Clan Direct Fire for my buddy. I also (stupidly) spent $200 on the "independent 8" forcepacks that are set to be exclusive releases, plus the Somerset Strikers.

What I'm most excited about? The Alpha Strike Counters pack, because its got all those extra buildings.

Now to just sit and wait for like 16 months before it gets fulfilled...

I got 2 packs for each vehicle pack I wanted because I have 2 inner sphere factions and wanted to make sure each one had a few of each vehicle. I'm a dumb completionist like that.

Some people may want to do full lances of demolishers or lrm batteries though.

Clan Cavalry Star
Inner Sphere Heavy Recon
Inner Sphere Recon
Inner Sphere Pursuit
Inner Sphere Security
Inner Sphere Assault
Legendary Mechwarriors II
Legendary Mechwarriors III

2x Visigoth Salvage
Blood Asp Salvage

I did my selections too. I went with mostly a broad spread instead of doubling up on anything other than salvage boxes. I went with Sea Fox dice and a Star League challenge coin. The extra Blood Asps and Visigoths are likely going to be given away to local people.

Battlefield support: Recon & Hunter
Battlefield support: Assault & Cavalry
Battlefield support: Battle & Fire
Battlefield support: Objectives
Inner Sphere Pursuit Lance
Inner Sphere Security Lance
Inner Sphere Assault Lance
The Clans Direct Fire Star
The Clans Cavalry Star
Legendary Mechwarriors II
Legendary Mechwarriors III
3x Visigoth fighters
3x Blood Asps
1x Support salvage box
1x Mercs salvage box

Then I had to add on the Somerset Strikers, Urbanmech lance, and Proliferation cycle boxes because apparently I hate money.
