There's a lot that sucks about Event Horizon, but the sets are lovely.

Wife and I recently started watching The Shield, never caught it on it's original run.

Holy poo poo does this show ever hold up. The writing is on point. It handles a lot of sensitive things VERY well for the early 2000s. I'd say so far it is almost rivals The Wire for me.

Does it stay good across the seasons? I'm just starting season 3 and I can't believe there were 7.

If you enjoyed that 2018 movie with John Cho Searching, they made another one, Missing also on Netflix. Completely unbelievable but more of the same and a pretty decent fast moving waste of 2 hours.

It’s been a while since I’ve watched it but I remember it being super edgy and it was a bit much in later seasons. That said, the last season or two were great and the ending might be my favorite ever for a tv show.

Yes. It’s been a while since I watched it but there wasn’t a massive drop in quality; I remember it being pretty consistent throughout.

You have a lot to look forward to! Glen Close! Forest Whitaker!

"Ah," Ratz had said, at last, "the artiste."
I watched three movies on streaming yesterday because I was visiting someone in a desert so there was nothing to do but stay inside get high and watch movies in a dark room:

Scream VI is the most "yes, I saw a Scream movie" entry yet. Not bad enough to be memorable like the Timothy Oliphant one but not good enough to be one of the good ones. Also everyone living through the end, even the guy who got stabbed like thirty times, was some absolute Looney Tunes poo poo.

65 is so loving boring. It feels like a 20 minute student film that got stretched to 90 minutes and the budget reflects that. Also, it's not a time travel movie, which is a weird choice and sounds like a twist but it isn't.

And finally, I'd never seen Showgirls but I think I got like the reverse hype effect where everyone said it's so unwatchable that I was like "oh that was less terrible than I expected?" Like it's still bad and the fact that a movie about elaborate stripper choreography has the worst dancing I've literally ever seen is impressive, but it was at least funny? Like I felt an emotion during it? Maybe 65 being that bad lowered my standards enough that I was ready for Verhoeven to go full deranged German mode all over me.

I like Scream 2 (w/ Timothy) a bunch and I think most people do. Scream 3 is usually the one that is (imo rightfully) disregarded because it's bad.

I enjoyed Scream VI even though I agree on your spoilered point. It'll probably bug me more on a rewatch.

I would really love to know the brainstorming session that led to removing the only part of the name that people recognize or have any affinity for from the branding.

That dumbfuck CEO guy (Zaslav?) literally came out and said they wanted to remove the HBO branding because it implied a certain level of quality and they worried it would turn off their idiot reality TV consumers from the WB\discovery side who don't want to watch high quality prestige TV

Actually preferred it to Searching, but maybe that's just cuz I saw Missing first. Wasn't a huge fan of Cho's performance and it just felt like the most expensive apple ad of all time.

I'm sure they have data that suggests 1/3 of North America thinks HBO is for liberal coast cucks or something. But then you should work on changing that notion instead of taking all your good stuff and slathering ketchup on it. But people loving love ketchup so..

When it carries connotations of being expensive and ad free? Discovery's whole model is serving slop to millions of cheap customers. If it wants the streaming service to efficiently serve slop and have mid episode ad breaks then getting rid of the HBO makes sense.

So the way I heard it was slightly different, in that he doesn't want to taint the HBO brand by having people associate it with all the Discovery slop that's going to be on the app, which seems like a reasonable decision to me even if the name Max is god awful

He definitely said what I said he said at some point. Also the above could be a reason, but you give up your incredibly powerful uniquely SEO'd name to be called Max, which is both related to previous channels with poo poo content and also the name of a bunch of people, movies, books, games, characters, etc

Absolutely stupid.
