I was looking up some old Chikara stuff, and man I can't believe that the Devastation Corporation never became any bigger. I know Smashmaster was a pain in the rear end and had a ton of personality issues, but I really thought Blaster was going to be the second coming of Mike Awesome. The guy was huge and the way he flew around the ring was a thing of beauty. He took off 2020, but otherwise he's only wrestled 18 times since 2018. Was there ever any reason, or was he just too tied into Smashmaster to care to go out and make a bigger name for himself?

It's such a shame what happened with CHIKARA. That was the first indie I got really into way back when and I still have the fondest memories of so many of their angles and it's great that some of their guys have been making it in AEW. I was at one of the Devastation Corporation's first shows, A Piece of The Action, and they're one of the things I remember the most about it because of how fun they were. Shame about the personality issues. In other news, GCW last night was insane. My throat hurts from screaming and a friend of mine nearly got in a fistfight with Matt Cardona. It's crazy how the dude really feels like a star more than ever. He had that entire ballroom booing him out of the building; it was great. And seeing Maki Itoh live was fantastic. Glad I got the chance. I realized it's been six years since I last went to a proper indie that had that energy and I forgot how much I missed it. Gonna have to pay more attention next time Revolver is in town. On the subject of CHIKARA, I still consider Ultramantis Black one of my favorite wrestlers ever. I wish he'd get booked more, even just get a cameo on AEW or something.

Honestly fair play if he is happy where he's at. This is a business that if you aren't careful can destroy you. I just, selfishly, miss watching him work. He was my guy for so long and I feel like he was really ahead of his time in many ways. The newer wrestling fanbase would love him. One of my biggest regrets is losing his Bad Brains-inspired shirt in a move. It definitely wouldn't fit me now since I bought it while in my first year of college ages ago but it was such a cool shirt. Would love to get another run of his merch.

My Chikara story is that one of the guys who has been helping out with the T2T Pittsburgh School and MV Young's show was Argus in Chikara, really nice guy, bumped into him at solidarity show for the Post Gazette strikers (was a total coincidence since his friend got him to go); can't say enough good things about Eddie Kingston and tagging with him.

My CHIKARA story is I bought Cibernetico Forever and as we were leaving various guys on the show were shaking hands and signing stuff, so I asked Quackenbush to sign my DVD. Either Cheech or Cloudy was standing next to him and acted offended I didn't ask them. Not realizing they were in the match (I hadn't watched it yet, I just liked their Ciberneticos more than their other shows) I said, "Oh sorry, would you mind signing too?" and they revealed they weren't pretending to be offended and refused. If you can find a more unlikely person to have a Mike Quackenbush autograph I'd like to meet them. Maybe Tony Khan does.

If any of y'all are interested in checking out my first venture as Nation Extreme Wrestling's new video editor, it's a drat good match: NEW Cinco de Mayo 2 - Los Suavecitos vs State of Emergency (SoE's entrance is hard cam until they hit ringside, there wasn't a usable shot of it) This job is fun as hell and I hope it leads to a long-term gig. I know a lot of indy folk say this, but UMB has been fairly firm on being anti-corporate wrestling, plus one of the reasons they did the phantom title change was they wanted to put the belt on him and his knee was hosed. I did thoroughly enjoy his yuletide death match with nick gage.

Every so often I realize how much I miss Tim Donst. I know he's doing a few indies here and there, mostly CZW (which...possibly isn't a thing anymore), but man. He's another guy I'm amazed hasn't been picked up for more.
