This is, sadly, more important to me than bettering myself.

It's time Overwatch went to a X-com style turn-based strategy.

And also exclusively PvE.

Aim assist is less about pc vs console since its not like pros are turning on consoles to play. They're just hooking controllers up to pcs. Its just the preferred way to play games regardless of platform for a lot of people.

Also aim assist is hilarious and i will never not find the griping about it amusing.

buddy you're the one asserting that the success of apex is because of aim assist as opposed to my assertion that apex is succeeding because it's got good fundamentals, generally fun gameplay, and it's a monthly content firehose.

that top pros are dropping m+kb to pick up controller and are effecting the swap within just a few months is glaring evidence that the state of aim assist is majorly overtuned. no doubt controller players enjoy aim assist, no one is questioning that.

because they chose to implement randomized crits as their primary swing mechanic in combat instead, presumably to mitigate issues with aimbots and highly skilled players gaining a significant advantage

headshots are obviously fairly controllable at the highest end of play, but for most people they serve the same function as random crits (your shot happens to land just right and you get a big dopamine hit as the dude you're dueling vaporizes) but with less of the sensation of the fates arbitrarily deciding that you lose when you're on the receiving end

Hardness and strength are death's companions. Flexibility and softness are the embodiment of life.

That which has become hard shall not triumph.

Tribes 3 brought to you by EA, with loadouts and armor classes replaced by Tribal Champion characters unlocked via premium currency and aggressive controller autoaim that leads airborne targets so you can consistently land mid-air spinfusor shots every time

I dunno, the random crits felt like they were added mostly so the weapons that can't headshot have a burst damage mechanic. The chance of a crit increases when you've been putting out damage so skilled players have an advantage, but it still feels like the fates decided to gently caress you over because the Soldier fresh out of spawn put a lucky crocket in you on the first shot.

TF2 was still a way more chill game though, 12v12 means having one player loving around doesn't cripple the team like in 5v5 so it was way more comfortable to try out a different class or loadout. OW matchmaking means I can never really learn a new character without feeling like I'm ruining games by throwing because I'm no longer playing at the level my MMR expects on such small teams, and the game being balanced around the assumption of counter picking means sometimes I'm not allowed to practice because I'm being hard countered on top of being bad with the character.

the dev commentaries talk about the reasons behind random crits-they're there for at least a couple reasons.
both helping to break up stalemates, and helping players go on sudden kill streaks for those "rare high moments" where you sometimes get to go on a rampage.

dogstile posted:

the charge mechanic (and lack of basically anything else other than having a sniper rifle) are definitely good in that regard, it's just funny for someone to talk about tf2 having a lack of headshots when sniper is probably the single most complained about class in the game

hard to tell since game quality and the like is anecdotal, but i wouldn't be surprised

the knock-on effect of cancelling PVE isn't just that PVE players are disappointed and leave, but that PVP players take it as a further sign that blizzard no longer considers OW to be a product worth investing in, and the question of, "do i really want to dump my time into learning a sunsetting game," starts poking around in your brain

I've sat out this season while playing MLB more so can't say, but it's a crazy competitive window of games with Zelda and Diablo and a ton more constantly coming out.
