I'd like to see a serving senior police officer get fired for brazenly lying to the media after their officers gently caress up and someone dies as a result. I know it's their job, to cover for the incompetent dickwads they employ, but to say on the one hand "We need to re-build the public's trust in the Police" and then to spout obvious bullshit on the other ("Erm, it may have looked like a police van on the video you saw, but we've been reliably informed - by officers who definitely weren't in the area at the time - that it was probably a plumber's van") just makes everyone hate them even more.

Setting aside my cynicism, we shouldn’t just dismiss Raab’s stated reason: he does have young children, and it can’t be easy having your dad being a hate figure. Parliament is the poorer for fewer former ministers and secretaries of state sticking around to offer their experience to the Commons – however you personally feel about Raab. Cookie Cutter posted:It's a co-opt, I've seen "the blob" being used online since around Covid times to refer to the constellation of liberal imperialist think tanks/military-industrial lobbyists/journalists/poli-sci ghouls etc who cast themselves as the progressive vanguard of civilisation but all close ranks and defend capitalism and their own careers when the chips are down - a fair criticism whether coming from left or right, Corbyn was a victim of this behaviour also. Of course that means by the time it's popular enough for Tory MPs to have heard about it, it's completely condensed down to simply mean "politically correct/woke people/anyone I don't like", so anyone using it publicly and sincerely in 2023 can be assumed fash. It's not an online term being co-opted by the right. The origin of widespread political use is Michael Gove from his time in the education department pushing through incredibly poorly thought through and unpopular reforms. Which were, in Gove's reckoning, only unpopular because of the "Blob".

This revised energy cap news is doing my head in. Can I find the new cap price per kWh for electricity anywhere? No. I am not a 'typical household'. I do not use what 'an average home' uses. I am a tiny 1-bed flat that is all electric. And worse, I have Economy 7. But at least if I had the basic info I could make a considered judgement. Why the fk they don't just publish that alongside their stupid 'average household' figure that is completely irrelevant to me and probably many others (as well as misleading as so many people assume it means 'maximum you will pay') I do not know. My 2 year fix ends early October so I am now attempting to create my budget going forward from then. Ed: ok I found it. https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/energy-price-cap-explained Standing charge more than doubled for me. FFS. Jaeluni Asjil fucked around with this message at 08:35 on May 25, 2023 |

awhile back I got ticketed for parking in an area I have parked in for 15 years no issues, and I fought it because by the highway code I was fine turns out southend, like many other shithole councils, declared themselves a special enforcement zone- the whole of southend- so they don't have to put up signs, they don't need lines on the road or stripes over the street, gently caress you pay the fine if I wasn't such a peaceable fellow I would specially enforce a brick through their fuckin' windows
