Picked this up immediately. Three levels in and I am completely sold, it's awesome. The weapons are satisfying as hell, level design is cool, and they've pulled off making you feel like a stompy robot guy without also being ponderous and clunky. Can recommend!

It ain't DUSK, but it's still a drat good entry in the genre and it's scratching the itch while I wait for Selaco (what if FEAR but Build Engine) or Fortune's Run (what if Dark Forces but gooder and faster) or ULTRAKILL to be finished. Also, they added a "For the Emperor!" button which automatically makes it a better 40K game on release than Darktide.

I really liked Mutant Year Zero but I didn't find the stealth action interesting or rewarding. That and I also did not enjoy the hard freeze bug that killed my progress, but it sounds like this one is a lot more solid.

Boltgun feels like an alternate reality doom 2016, an equally valid 'modern reimagining' of the original games. I really hope the modding scene finds a home there.

It's better than Vermintide or Vermintide 2 were in every meaningful way. The only major complaints against it at this point are that there's not a lot of environmental/objective variety to the maps, and there hasn't been a major content release yet (because the community was so mad about cosmetic/metaprogression things that they had to pause development of content updates to address the review bombers). It's just good. Imo, gameplay-wise it's like if Quake kept evolving instead of whatever the gently caress Quake 4 was... Sheesh the 00s were bad for id. Also, I never played DOOM but Boltgun feels very Quake to me, I spotted the E1M1 armor reference but still. Also, Darktide is a good game hamstrung by a bad progression system mandated by loving suits. I'll try to hold back on my "suits are ruining games" rant (short version: Arkane hemorrhaged some incredible talent because of loving suits), but like deep dish peat moss said, it's largely unparalleled in gameplay. I'd really only put DUSK and ULTRAKILL in having similarly fun and satisfying FPS gameplay.
