There seems to be a huge misunderstanding about the nobody: format and it's... Meme etymology? The early antecedents had a traditional dialogue format, like My parents: you should apply yourself and you can achieve great things Me: a picture of someone wearing cupcakes or some poo poo Then that evolved into My friend: what's u- Me: [anything innane implied to interrupt them] The "nobody" form was at first an ironic exaggeration of the second form, perhaps purposefully inaccurate. Then it just became the way that meme was presented.

It's like how POV works now where the meaning is totally divorced from how it is used.

I'm no memeologist, but I thought the point of the nobody: format was to be an ironic "I'm so obsessed with this thing that I bring it up at any possible opportunity, even when nobody asks", like with stupid trivia or bizarre lore theories and poo poo. E:which I guess would go along with that second one Garrand has a new favorite as of 01:19 on May 30, 2023 |

Baron von Eevl posted:He just felt very strongly it was important that people could pronounce his name correctly, to him that was more important than the spelling. Yeah, I should've been more thoughtful in how I described my feeling on it. I know the anglicization part was a serious issue people had to deal with, the funny part was more that the original name doesn't seem tough to deal with these days, while the changed version was something I spent decades thinking was a silly name made up for a fictional commercial character. Outside of that context it just feels like one of any number of similar changes for immigrants.
