Der Kyhe posted:That... really doesn't work does it? I mean the concrete keeps breaking up because the rebar keeps getting wet, rusts and expands. Those rings do nothing to stop that, they maybe buy few weeks or months at best because they keep the broken pieces in place until at some moment the pillar just snaps because there isn't enough concrete keeping the rebar from bending under the weight of the deck. As an extremely temporary solution, with no traffic, maybe? If I remember right from a lecture awhile back, concrete is much less strong when it comes to being pulled apart than compressed. This might help keep the pillars from pushing apart and splitting the concrete that is still load bearing?

Deki posted:As an extremely temporary solution, with no traffic, maybe? Yes, rebar makes it not snap when the pillar bends, concrete makes the pillar not to compress under the weight of the deck. If the rebar rusts enough to lose contact with concrete, or concrete fractures enough to start lose its form, the weight of the deck lies basically on a loose stack of irregularly shaped concrete elements, which also starts to shift in wind because rebar isn't there to keep it in place. And when those pieces of concrete get loose, the pylon either compresses under the weight to compensate, or just snaps in half. And those cock-rings aren't going to be able to keep it together.

They looked like solid concrete. nah, theyve got rebar in those first pics of the damage there was a watermark that kinda camouflaged the exposed horizontal section & you could see the verticals they were just coated in concrete dust and poo poo iirc the Kerch bridge was designed and constructed by dutch contractors, not donestically, and they did a legit job with it. that area has 70mph crosswinds regularly, with super salty water, so its a lot harder to cut any corners than most other infrastructure that pillar doesn't look healthy tho, and looks like it's right where they reattached the dropped section FirstnameLastname fucked around with this message at 19:59 on Jun 2, 2023 |

Concrete cracks are rarely a uniform fixed width so I wouldn't put much faith in that image. On the other hand Russia says the bridge is fine and they are generally full of poo poo. So I wouldn't trust that the bridge is fine either, even if the image is a shop. Putin is a real piece of poo poo.

Since Russia uses it as an artillery base and they probably have rigged it up with explosives to the gill, there will be no resolution where they just leave it peacefully. If for nothing else, the great Tsar Vladimir the Incontinent will order that place to be blown up as a "gently caress you" when the Russians are driven out.

https://twitter.com/ABarbashin/status/1664705297997352974 Russian MoD accidentally published information about their plans for moooobilization. Key takeaways are people refusing to go fight for Russia, a large database of eligible service candidates, the allocation of 5 billion rubbles to dragoon as many people into the service as possible, the total formation of 1 army corps, 5 divisions, and 26 brigades, and the kidnapping of potential conscripts on the service list.

Well just keep stoking the war flame with more soldiers, pensioners and prisoners. Eventually Russia wont owe anyone a cent and can rebuild economically around an information two lane highway of gas, timber and 25mhz unsanctioned microchips and the absence of a single domestic consumer of any of those things.
