I knew that the Marshalls were volunteers but are you seriously telling me that the stewards are too? The people interpreting the rules and handing out penalties? That seems insane but I guess it explains a lot about the sport as a whole.

Still, for a sport so synonymous with luxury brands and ostentatious displays of wealth, you’d think they could afford to at least throw those people a few bucks for a weekend of work, especially the guys dashing out onto an active racetrack to pick up debris and whatever

The F1 stewards are remarkably consistent compared to MotoGP where you have a drunkard who is paid to be the steward and won't even make consistent decisions on incidents two laps apart

Luckily for the inconsistent drunk, motorcycles are much easier to not have incidents on, unlike the criminal and disgusting vehicles known as cars

I was losing my mind at that moment because he said " The German, the Chinaman and... the Man from Japan" and every second of that beat between him talking about Zhou and him talking about Yuki was the most tense part of the race

I’m really impressed by Zhou. I thought he was another in a long line of pay drivers who had company or family backing and would cruise around in F1 then gently caress off home, yet he’s clearly both a capable driver and putting in the work day in and day out. It’s sad the sport is too bigoted for him to ever get a chance at a better team, but hopefully his trail breaking can make other it easier for other Chinese drivers to climb the ranks.

Same, and this is when races are really dire. I would skip about ~3-4 laps ahead, watch 10 seconds, and then repeat. Even other “bad” races you can usually find something that’ll make you break that cycle but today was dire.

Indycar was funny as hell though. F1 needs more actual binmen instead of regular lovely, but not crash-the-car-under-yellow bad drivers.

There really is no value to be gained from paying for Jolyon Palmer to attend races in person. Makes more sense to keep him in a windowless room where he can make weird barbed comments about Grosjean.

On the one hand he was always a binman, but on the other if you can't even get a job on Sky Sports F1 as an ex-F1 driver (reminder that Johnny Herbert was paid to be on there for years) then perhaps you shouldn't be throwing stones, idk

IIRC, Season 1 of DTS didn’t have Ferrari or Mercedes involved, because they were the big dog teams and DTS was an unknown. After it got popular they got more involved.

And DTS would not have become so huge if they just talked to the PR heads of the leading teams. It was the trainwrecks fighting for second from last place that made the show work.

It feels like DTS selects 5 teams to focus on for the season, and then swap out for storylines. I can't remember seeing Aston Martin anywhere in the show and they dropped focus on Williams after two years of "yeah they're still the underdog lol".
