buddy of mine has been organizing https://twitter.com/thebirdunion/status/1662203111266750464?s=46&t=Fvi-hhmDeherXb1fOGmnRw edit: a lot of them do not like the name “Bird Union.” I think it’s funny but there are concerns it means management won’t take them seriously. if thread has better suggestions I’ll pass them on.

one of my favorite exchanges in a bargaining session was a union rep swearing at an HR director about something, and the HR director saying "you can't talk to me like that!" "I can say anything i want and talk to you however the gently caress i want, ask your attorney!" and the attorney just sits there looking at the table

That leads me to believe that the company were being shitheels about a safety issue, he called them on it, and got fired for his trouble. Anger and profanity in another setting might even be counterproductive, depending on the situation but I’m going to bat for my people come hell or high water when it comes to physical safety at work. I don’t care what some sniveling nitwit manager has to say about it.

A former National Labor Relations Board attorney told Bloomberg Law that the labor movement dodged a bullet with Thursday’s decision. “Anyone who understands labor law and is on the side of labor is breathing a sigh of relief,” said Anne Marie Lofaso, a labor law professor at West Virginia University. “The decision left Garmon preemption completely intact. It really is all about concrete.” https://news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-report/supreme-court-allows-company-to-sue-union-for-strike-destruction 🤞

on the surface that judgment looks like you just gotta be careful to time strikes so there isnt like a warehouse full of truffles that go to waste, which in turn means that mangement will make sure to keep a warehouse full of truffles to prevent strikes. but then that fucks up their margins so idk i got a lil off track i think

judgement's meant to set up a chilling effect on the looming ups strike. the teamsters are going to be financially liable for all the hurt feels caused by people not having slave labor to deliver their treats in a prompt fashion

My understanding is the workers intentionally mixed concrete so that it would harden and cause losses, specifically inside equipment and trucks that the scabs/management had to clean and did not end up damaged. If true, that's sabotage. Did not know the auto workers were this cool
